Pros: Easy to apply, works great in dry and dusty conditions, prevents rust-and-wear on chains.
Cons: Expensive to most people, not designed for wet weather, needs to be re-applied frequently.
The Bottom Line: Pedros Extra Dry is one of the best lubes for chains and other drivetrain components on the average cyclist's bike. Can also be used on brake and shifter cables.

----- There's always time for lubrication -----
First of all, I'm a man very well aquainted with both chains and lubrication. The number of chains I've broken, replaced, or just plain installed is well into the mid 20s by now thanks to my racing and trail-heavy riding schedule. It doesn't take a genius to know it gets rather expensive replacing chains several times a summer, any way to increase chain life is very welcome.
Lubrication isnt as simple as it sounds at first, what you need really depends on what conditions you ride in. Im going out on a limb here and saying most cyclists dont pick rainy, wet, muddy days to go for a ride. Another educated guess leads me to say most riders dont take to the saddle in temperatures under 35 degrees very often. I guess Im a glutton for punishment since I ride in all those conditions, and sometimes I even go out on nice sunny days! Ive tried lubricants from almost every manufacturer; Park, Finish Line, White Lightning, and Pedros. My favorite so far is the extensive line of lubricants available from Pedros. Dont get me wrong and assume I work for Pedros, I just choose what works best and what works together. Pedros has a lube for every condition, from wet and sloppy (SynLube), very cold temperatures (Ice Wax), road riders (Road Rage), and all-around dry conditions (Extra Dry). Since most riders see mostly pavement, hard packed dirt, and dry sand Extra Dry (ED) is the lube best suited for their chains.
Extra Dry isnt dry or powdery, its actually an oily lube available in 2oz drip bottles ($4), 4oz drip bottles ($6), 12oz aerosol cans($18), and 1 gallon shop-size ($90). To apply correctly your chain should be clean and dry. Its best to degrease your chain and clean it thoroughly with a rag or shop towel. I use Park Chain Brite cleaner and a Park CM-5 Cyclone Chain Scrubber in the garage, if Im on the trail Ill spray
Pedros Bio Cleaner liberally and wipe it down. The best way to apply ED is drop by drop, yes it takes longer but it gives the best penetration and lasts longer. I usually start with the PowerLink on my Sram chain since its easily recognizable, if you have a Shimano chain you can just mark the side of a link with a marker. Now apply one drop of Extra Dry to the each link as you slowly move your pedal backwards with your hand. This will only take 2 or 3 minutes, so do it right and give every link a drop. Once youve finished pedal your chain backwards 10 or so rotations to give the lube plenty of time to work in. Now let your chain dry for a few hours before riding. Thats the beauty of Extra Dry, the PTFE included with the lube keeps working long after the chain is dry. You dont want to ride with a wet and oily chain since dirt loves to stick to oil, youll soon have a muddy, dirty, squeaky chain that needs a deep cleaning again. Later you can go for a nice long ride and enjoy the benefits of a quiet chain and better shifting performance.
You can also use Extra Dry on your shifter cable guides and cable housing. Make sure to let it dry well before riding as dirt in your cable housings is a bad thing. Dont skimp on your chain and use standard oil as lubrication, you dont want your chain failing on you in the middle on nowhere due to wear and deterioration. Its better to pay a little more and enjoy your ride worry free. If youre a mountain biker like me, youll want to make sure your lube is matched to your riding style. Check with Pedros.com if youre not sure what lube you should be using.
