| Freak369's Full Review: Pentel Data Checker Highlighters Data Checker High... |
Highlighters are a great thing to have around if you want to go through your notes and place emphasis on certain things; the same can be said when they are used in textbooks. Almost every time I start shopping for highlighters I am reminded of Rodney Dangerfield's classic line in the movie "Back To School" when he is talking about his son buying used books and that all the "good stuff" is already highlighted. "How do you know they highlighted the right stuff?" We don't use as many highlighters these days, when the boys were younger they thought that they were the coolest things to use for their school work, now they use index cards to take notes instead of permanently damaging their notes or workbooks. One thing that I really love about this is that it has a flat design to it, almost like the Pentel Presto! Flat Barrel Correction Pen which leads me to ask why Pentel has such a fascination with 'flat' products. What makes this a unique feature? It is nice to work with, doesnt roll off the desk and it is impossible to lose the cap for it.
Pentel Chisel Point Pink Data Checker
When it comes to buying highlighters there are a few things to consider; the tip size, what you will be using it for and if you want a regular or neon color. Some people might call this a neon pink but it is a little darker than most neon pinks from other companies. Make no mistake about it, it is loud and it will get noticed when you use it but the downside to it is that after a few months it does start to fade and this can be a big problem if you need to reuse the textbook or notes over again. Even more so when you are going over pencil, depending on the type of lead it could smear it on contact but over time it could fade the writing as well. Since this has a chisel point to it you can cover a line of text in one pass almost eliminating the need to go over a section multiple times. If you do this often you could end up with warped sections from the paper getting saturated with ink and when that happens there is always a possibility that it could leak on to other pages then you wont have a clue why certain things are highlighted.
Using it is easy, just pop off the cap, put the tip of it to paper and highlight what you feel is important. You can get the best results from this if you store it flat rather than in a pencil holder but that's just the experience that I've had from using these. The cap can be placed on the back of the highlighter while you are using it but honestly, it is practically impossible to lose it because of the size and shape of it. It snaps back on to the barrel with a loud clicking noise so you will be able to tell when you haven't pressed hard enough on it. This can make a mess if you leave it uncapped and it starts getting tossed around in a backpack, even worse when a certain little girl gets a hold of one and decided to redecorate her bedroom. Such was the case less than an hour ago when Annabelle snagged the pink one off my desk. She simply couldnt wait for the weather to break so we could paint her room, explaining humidity levels to a diva is an impossible task.
These do cost a little more than regular round highlighters but to me they are worth it because I never have to hunt for them or worry about them rolling off the desk. At the shop they are a true necessity because they get clipped on the plastic hanging hot files outside everyone's cubicles. Since these come in four colors we can use them to color code things like what needs to be ordered, problems that need to be addressed and things that need to be put on sale because there is an overstock of them. I get these at my local copy center for $1.40 each and at one time they had a special on them; buy three and get one free. I'm not sure if Pentel still offers these in the four color assortment pack but that is the most economical way to go if you like the overall design of these but want the ability to have different colors to work with.
The Bottom Line
These aren't your run of the mill highlighters and some people might not like the shape of them; I do have to admit that it can take a little while to get used to holding it because it is flat, fat and wide but once you do, you'll never look at round highlighters the same way again. The pink and purple colors are the ones that I use most around the house but seeing has how the little diva knows that they work on walls as well as paper, I am going to have to hide both of these colors from her. I tell you, the look on her face when I walked in her bedroom was priceless. As hard as I tried I just couldn't get mad at her for 'painting' with this highlighter. When I asked her why she did it her answer was simple, "I don't like white walls". If you are in the market for a highlighter that is going to last for a long time, give you a lot of coverage area and doesn't cost an arm and a leg then this Pentel Data Checker is an awesome pick.
As always, thanks for the visit
