| LisaDo's Full Review: Pepto-Bismol Original Formula Liquid |
Lately, due to many goings on beyond my control, I have been way over stressed. During times like these, some people reach for a cigarette, some reach for alcohol. I reach for my Pepto-Bismol. This generally doesn't happen to often, but when it does my stomach pays for it. I get serious nausea. When I can keep something down I usually end up getting indigestion.
I have found myself reaching for "The Pink Stuff" once a day lately, at least. My poor tummy can't take much more, but when it is upset, Pepto takes care of the problem. For me it does it in one dose. Which is nice because frankly, I find the taste revolting. I guess I could switch to chewables, but I have never been able to tolerate chewables in any form, even baby aspirin. As I was growing up my family used Pepto-Bismol and that is my main reason for using it. It worked for me as I was growing up, worked for the whole family, so why switch? Yeah, yeah. The taste, I know. I have found that if it is refrigerated it isn't quite so bad.
Pepto-Bismol is used to relieve upset stomach, indigestion, nausea, heartburn and diarrhea. It places a "protective coating" around your stomach helping to calm and sooth it. I know that I feel relief within just a few minutes.
The last time I bought a bottle I didn't mess around. I bought the big one, 16 FL OZ. It comes with a handy measuring cup with markings on the sides for dosage. This is great. Even when I wash and recycle the plastic bottle (yes I actually do this) I can keep the little cup because we are always losing them. The little cup is secured to the lid by a plastic safety band. If this band is torn or missing, buy a different bottle. If you are a nice person you could give the opened bottle to a sales associate so they can write it up as a loss. I always do this and it often drives my husband nuts. His theory is someone else will do it. It only takes a second so why not me? Anyway...

** As a side note, when our 2 year old son was sick a few months ago I called his doctor's office to see what the dosage would be for him as he had diarrhea and was miserable. I talked to the nurse and she said that they no longer recommend giving Pepto-Bismol to children under the age of 12 due the the ingredient Bismuth Subsalicylate. She said that it could cause health problems in children and to treat him with extra fluids and more fiber instead. It worked, just took longer, but our son is my life and since I would never do anything to harm him intentionally. I chose to heed her warning and did not give this to him. Check with your own doctor before giving it to your children.

I grew up using this product and still use it to this day. I figure "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I will continue to use Pepto-Bismol until it stops working for me or they stop making it.
