| alphaproject's Full Review: Philips Acoustic Edge Sound Card |
I have a unique view on this card because I have been doing a lot of Pro Audio recording using CubaseVST/32 and Nuendo.
These programs are known to EAT system requirements for breakfast.
My current rig is this:
Pentium 3 - 933
512 Megs PC-133 Ram
Phillips 5.1 Acoustic Edge Sound Card
Altec Lansing AVS5000 sound system ( average at best )
Asus mobo Cuslc-2
With this rig games are flawless and the sound is awesome. This card can do many things with 2 dimension stereo many other cards cannot. It can convert 2 signals into 4 or even 5.1 sound if you have the right set-up.
I only have 4 speakers plus a sub so I cannot get it's 5.1 accuracy but the 4.1 sounds great.
The good thing about this card is that it has a coaxial Digital out/in which allows perfect digital reproductions of music or samples....think about that....DVD out....hmmm..
Anyways.....While using it in Cubase after my system heats up a bit the playback kinda jumps and crackles a bit. I do not know the cause but it doesn't matter in the final mixdown because that is done internally and the sound is not affected. The actual sound quality however is so clean, that even Wavelab shows no hiss coming from the recorded tracks that went into the inputs on the back. Some cards I have had are noisy crickets compared to this card.
I would like to see how a soundblaster 5.1 would handle the Cubase and Nuendo but I'm not going to shell out more money to do a test.....
Peace!!!!!!
