jps246's Full Review: Philips Bodygroom BG2020 Electric Shaver
Sometimes you've just got some body hair you want to trim or shave off. That's where the Philips Bodygroom BG2020 Electric Shaver comes in handy. This relatively inexpensive shaver lets you shave close to the skin for a smooth feeling or with its attachments, trim your body hair to various lengths.
I've been using this shaver for a while and while it isn't perfect, it is good for some basic grooming. I also like that it's rechargeable so I don't have to worry about electric cords and even more so, I can use it in the shower or when I'm dry since it works in both places.
Basics
There isn't much to this razor. It has the traditional razor head in the middle that will shave you right down to your skin and provide a fairly smooth cut. I haven't experienced much irritation from it and after the shave, your skin does feel smooth. On either side of the razor are more traditional clippers that will cut whatever hair your grooming basically to just above skin level. So what I tend to do in areas I want completely shaved is to use the clipper first by just running it over the skin and then going back over with the razor portion to get the really smooth feeling.
There are also several attachments of varying lengths that let you take advantage of the clippers and lets you trim your body hair to various lengths instead of just cutting it off. So if you wanted to trim your chest hair or whatever, you could manscape a bit and have shaved areas to longer, but still trimmed areas with the Bodygroom.
This is a rechargeable razor. The instructions say it has 50 minutes of cutting on a full charge. I've never even come close to that, but it's never run out of juice on me. I just generally keep it on the charger and then use it for several minutes.
The Bodygroom can also be used either dry or in the shower, which I like since then the hair you're trimming is just washing away, or at least collecting around the drain, making it easier to clean up. I also find the close shave is a little less irritating if you use it in the shower.
Experiences
I have found that the trimmer part of the Bodygroom works really well. The razor part on the other hand works, but sometimes you've got to go over an area multiple times to get a smooth cut. I don't think it's the end of the world since I didn't expect to get a great razor with something that only cost about $40 when I bought it. Instead, I just tend to spend a little extra time with the razor to make sure that I'm getting the shave that I want.
I've been using it for a while now and haven't noticed a decline in the power of the charge or anything. I do clean out the razor head and the clippers to get out any hair, but besides that, I haven't had to do any real maintenance with the Bodygroom.
Final Thoughts
I can't say it's the best razor I've ever had, but it does what it's supposed to and the clipper portion of the razor is great, especially with the various length attachments. It does make trimming and shaving your body hair easy and fairly quick.
I'd say that if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive razor and hair trimmer for body hair grooming, the Philips Bodygroom BG2020 Electric Shaver is a good choice. It won't amaze you, but it won't disappoint you either.
