| bops_mom's Full Review: Philosophy Shear Splendor Age Defying Hair Marinat... |
Last summer I had some hair issues. I went in and asked for brown low lights with blonde highlights. I walked out platinum blonde. I still dont know what happened and Im not sure the gal who did it to me does either. Its not like it was the first (or last) time she did my hair and it had never happened before.
Im not meant to be a platinum blonde so a week later I went back and she fixed my hair for me. Needless to say my hair had some serious damage. After a week or so I was at the point with it that I didnt care how much I had to spend, I was going to do something to my hair to not look so fried.
Enter Philosophy Sheer Splendor Age-Defying Hair Marinating Oil
Why this product? Because I read a review for it here on Epinions and Ive used Philosophy products for years. While some have been hits and some huge misses I generally know what Im getting when I order a product from Philosophy.
Philosophys Sheer Splendor Hair Marinating Oil is packaged in typical Philosophy packaging. It comes in a small (4 fl oz) see through white bottle with black flip top. The product itself is a copper orange shade. Its basically like those little tubes of hot oil treatment I (and Im sure others) used way back in the day. (Do they still make them?) Only this product is thicker, not as greasy feeling and works even better. The price isnt cheap its $20 but those tubes of hot oil werent cheap way back when either (like $3 10 years ago).
Philosophy claims this product is ultra moisturizing and hydrating
. Helps repair dry, damaged hair; helps restore shine, fullness and manageability. (--taken from bottle)
Usage
Philosophy recommend this product be used as a weekly treatment and says the product is for chemically treated, chronically dry hair. My hair is both of those plus fine and very thin, wavy to curly and my scalp tends to hyper sensitive. Its recommended that you apply a palm full of this product to your hair, starting at the ends and working your way to the scalp. Let it sit for 20 minutes (or overnight) and then wash out. Of course Philosophy recommends you use this product in conjunction with their Sheer Splendor shampoo and conditioner, but I use my usual shampoo and conditioner.
My take
I can honestly say last summer this product saved my hair. Not like my hair was going to fall out, but it looked so frazzled and fried it was
. Yuck. After one treatment with this product (for 20 minutes) my hair looked about 60% better. After a second treatment which I left on over night that I did later that same week my hair looked and felt even better than it had prior to my bleach blonde incident. I was sold, I was impressed, and I was thrilled! My hair was smoother, softer, and shinier and did not look like it had just undergone serious hair color damage.
I will be honest and say I have not faithfully used this product every week like is recommended, but only when my hair starts to look extra frizzy or frazzled. Its not like I couldnt use it once a week (my hair would appreciate it if I did) its more of a time/lazy/I dont really think about it until I start looking pretty bad thing for me.
When I use it now I generally put it on my hair on days Im not working and just let it sit for a couple hours until I shower. The few times Ive use it as an overnight treatment Ive applied it right before bed and put a shower cap over my hair to protect my pillow.
And so
While $20 isnt cheap for 4 fl oz of product I do think this one is worth it. At least for me it has proved that it is. A little goes a long way and the product really does deliver great results without irritating my sensitive scalp. I would recommend this product to anyone who has dry hair in spite of using hydrating conditioners, leave in conditioners, etc. If those just arent quite getting it done if youre still dealing with some frizz and frazzled hair - try Philosophy Sheer Splendor Hair Marinating Oil. I think youll be as impressed and pleased as I am.
Note: On Philosophys web site theyre calling this product Philosophy Sheer Splendor Restorative Conditioning Marinade yet the image is the same image of my bottle which clearly states its Age-defying hair marinating oil.
