| bmcnichol's Full Review: Pokemon Rummy Card Game |
My son, being the Pokemon fanatic he is, wants everything and anything Pokemon. When I came across Pokemon Rummy, I thought it would make a nice stocking stuffer. Our family loves to play games, especially card games because you can take them anywhere. Pokemon Rummy seemed like a good addition to our large game collection plus it was Pokemon.
Pokemon Rummy comes with 56 Pokemon playing cards, rules and a carrying case with a clip. The cards are standard playing cards that are round. They are made of heavy card stock that seems very durable. We have had our cards for almost two years and they do show some wear just like other card sets do but they are have not ripped or torn.
The cards also have many of the Pokemon characters on them, such as Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Jigglypuff, Charmander, Clefairy, Squirtle, and Meowth, which cover ten evolutions. Each Pokemon is on two cards. The aces show all Pokemon. The cards come in a plastic case that is clear on one side and red or blue on the other. The case makes the game easy to clean up and store. Since the game is self contained, it makes it nice to take along on trips.
To game is played like regular rummy except you are looking to collect a complete evolution. OK mom and dad, went to learn all there is to know about Pokemon and their evolutions? This game will be a learning experience. The game is easy to learn though and is fun.
My son loves these cards because they are Pokemon but me on the other hand….well, I think they are hard to shuffle. I know they are round because the pokeball is round but it would make it a lot easier to play if only the cards were square. They are larger then regular cards which makes it hard for my three year old to hold in his hand (he helps mommy play).
It also states that they can be used as regular playing cards. Each card is numbered and has the hearts, diamonds and such on them but these values are hard to see because of all the Pokemon. Try breaking out these cards during a bridge game….I don’t think so.
Because of the shape of the cards, it makes it hard to shuffle and even hold in your hand. This of course, doesn’t bother my son; he thinks the cards are great.
Now if you are on the market for a deck of cards, I would not recommend the Pokemon Rummy cards because of their size, shape and price. But if you are looking for a new game for a Pokemon fan, Pokemon Rummy is a great find. Any Pokemon fan will love these.
My son loves his Pokemon Rummy cards. They are great to take to grandmas or on vacation. He clips them onto his backpack and they go anywhere. He and his friends have sat around looking at the cards and creating the evolutions without playing rummy.
The Pokemon Rummy cards are more expensive then standard cards but then you are paying for the Pokemon name. I picked this set up for $3.99 but found them on amazon.com for $4.99. I think they would make a great present for any child that likes Pokemon.
Bottom line for this mommy is my son loves them. This is who I bought them for so that is what is most important. I have learned to deal with the minor inconveniences that I have found with the game.
So if you have a Pokemon fan in your home, I would highly recommend the Pokemon Rummy Game. I Choose You Pokemon Rummy.
