clooneyfan's Full Review: Premier Perfecta Rev 14% Whitening Gel 1pk 1 gel a...
Genetically, I think my sisters and I were hiding behind the barn when God was handing out good teeth. I've always had problems with them. They are soft and crooked. Even though I didn't brush them as often as I should have as a child, I am fortunate that my mother was very proactive about getting us regular dental treatment. I became accustomed to getting bi-yearly cleanings and check ups during my childhood years.
I got braces as a teenager which fixed the crooked part. Once they came off, I dedicated myself to keeping them healthy. I would brush and floss them every single night and get regular cleanings.
Then I smashed my front tooth during a skate boarding accident and abscessed my front tooth. It turned dark after that, which started my unhappiness with my smile. I got my front two teeth bonded sometime around 1980. The bondings lasted about 10 years or so. Then my dentist convinced me to get crowns in their place. I deliberately got my front two teeth slightly lighter than the rest of them because I wanted a whiter smile. I had planned on going back and getting the rest of my teeth lightened when I got more money but I never had the extra cash.
Fast forward fifteen years. I turned 48. The crowns were holding up well but my natural teeth had darkened with age. I went and had a professional cleaning but the color difference was still very noticable in photos. I was very self conscious about it. I finally went to the dentist and asked if bleaching would help. He thought it would, so he took two dental impressions of my upper and lower teeth and had custom trays made. I came back a week later to pick up the trays and a Perfecta Rev kit. I searched online and you can buy Perfecta Rev for about $35. So I can only assume the added cost is due to getting custom dental impressions made. The dentist explained to me how it worked and how much whitening solution to use in the trays (a dab will do ya). He said to make sure you didn't get too much on your gums. If I did, I should take a Q-tip and wipe it off which is hard to do since the gel is clear! He said the gel wouldn't do any damage but it might cause sensitivity.
The bleaching gel is largely comprised of hydrogen peroxide. I was instructed to wear the trays for 15 minutes a day and then rinse with the finishing solution. In addition to accelerating the whitening process, swishing with the minty-tasting finishing solution will help to remove any residual gel and alleviate the accompanying burning sensation.
Since I have quite a few crowns, my dentist told me to skip the slots for those teeth since the solution only works on natural teeth. That first day, I got my upper and lower trays mixed up so the whitening gel ended up going on the wrong teeth. After removing the trays, I had a stabbing pain in my lower back tooth. Twice, it felt like someone was driving a pick in it but this sensation only lasted briefly.
After that incident, I always put my trays in first to make sure I had the correct mold. I avoided my last two teeth and only put the gel in the tooth slots that didn't have crowns. I had no more stabbing teeth issues, although my mouth was always dry for the two weeks I used it. After four days of use, my teeth and gums became extremely sensitive. On day five I waited 36 hours before resuming treatment. On day 7, I was busy and tired so I actually skipped two days. This gave my teeth and gums a needed rest. I realized I was putting too much bleach in the trays so I reduced the amount even more.
The following week, I still had some sensitivity issues but I was able to continue the treatments. Although my teeth will never be "movie star" white, they are much lighter and brighter than before. I am no longer ashamed to smile for the camera.

**Update: Nov 1, 2009: After several months, I've notice my teeth slowly getting darker so this product apparently does not leave your teeth white forever. Still, they are lighter than they were so I still think it was worth it.
