Couch potato on a diet
I have been dieting with eDiets.com since May, 00. I have done pretty well but hit a long plateau. I knew the only way to break through would be to get some exercise. With my kids' schedule, going to a gym was out of the question. The Texas heat makes exercise outside unbearable for someone overweight and out of shape. So it had to be something I could do at home. I tried exercise tapes but then I was hogging the TV from the other family members. I wanted to workout in my bedroom so I could enjoy peace and quiet.
Couch potato taking action
Several members of eDiets talked about working out on an elliptical trainer at the gym and how many calories they were burning. I asked them about the equipment. They told me about the low impact which is very important to me since I have had knee surgery for a completely torn ACL. I did my research on the Internet including Epinions and selected the ProForm 485E. Then I found it on sale through buy.com. Then I just waited for delivery.
Couch potato assembling
I thought it would be heavier but the box is a little over 100 pounds. The manual recommends two people to put it together but I found that I could put most of it together by myself with a little help from my 9 year old daughter when we put the arm/foot pieces on the machine. I found the directions easy to follow and had it together in an hour.
Couch potato trying it out
The first time I used it, it felt different and I had a hard time going more than 10 minutes. Remember--I am really out of shape. The next day I put a magazine in the rack and stayed on for 26 minutes before I realized how long I went. Wow. The next day I worked out 3 different times because it was so fun and feels great.
No more couch potato
I challenge myself with the digital display to burn more calories, go more laps, go faster, or stay on longer. I vary it by going backwards on the curves of the virtual lap display and forwards on the straights. I use the arm poles until my arms feel like they are going to drop off and then just hold on the stationary handles. I have never enjoyed exercise until I got my ProForm 485E.
Smaller former couch potato going goal
I broke through the long plateau and I'm losing weight again. Even better is my legs and butt are slimming down and getting toned up. I don't think I could have done it without the ProForm 485E. It fits my single mom budget and lets me fit it in my chauffeur mom schedule.
