Horrid Device, Avoid at all costs.
Ok, so I usually only write to epinions when a product bites me in the ..., and this is no exception.
I purchased this system from a Canadian Tire store for about 40 bux cdn (like 30 usd), installed it and it worked for like a day or two.
First thing that really bothered me was that the water coming out of the tap not even through the filter was greatly reduced. Their switch unit seems to have a flow limiter in it. This made filling pots/sinks take like 5x longer on my city water pressure setup.
This I could live with. On to the reason to avoid this product however.
After about 3 days of it working, the flow began to get really slow... I mean really slow. Over a minute to fill a drinking glass. Realising that returning the product would take at least an hour and a half of my time i decided just to call it a write off... Its 40 bux and my hourly billables are a lot more than that. So being the inquisitive type i tried to figgure out what the hell was causing the prob. Was there a rock or some kind of sediment blocking the filter... No... So i test the flow with and without the filter in there... Water pressures good. So next i get to thinking the lil flow regulators fooey. So i removed that (fairly easy just two screws)... That was working fine but i removed it anyways.
So now im there nothing is impeding the flow of water to the cartridge. Assuming it was just one cartridge, (they all couldnt be screwed right) I installed the 2nd one I had purchased (thinking it might be hard to get replacements down the road) when I purchased the kit... Activated the whole thing etc.... Seems to be working fine. I can again fill a drinking glass...
But then. Three days or so later it slows down again. So this time i know what the prob is and i just turn the water on and let it run for like 30 mins... Flow didnt improve. Tried shaking it... I mean I tried everything...
Finally I just gave up, took an exacto blade to the cartridge and opened it up. Inside is just a black carbon filter with a silly looking design. Its like a cylinder with 2mm of clearance on the outside and a hollow core about 1cm wide.
Nearest I can tell, the slight sediment in my residential pipes, (and I dont live in the sticks or on well water. Im talkin downtown Vancouver city water) which this filter was designed to remove, clogged the thing in a matter of 3 days. Now to be clear there was no slime, or anything that would indicate buildup on the outside of the carbon, so I just assume that the micro-sized passages must have gotten blocked.
The bottom line is this thing just cost me 40 bux, its now sitting in the trash, and all I got for my trouble was a nifty swiveling head which I would say is worth no more than two dollars.
Avoid this product. I think im gonna go to a 3 filter + Reverse Osmosis unit and stop playing around with these faucet mount things. Cost more but prolly worth it just to avoid the hassle.
Avoid.
