Purell Instant Hand Sanitizer - One item OT students MUST carry!

The Bottom Line: I carry Purell with me at all times. It is a must-have item for people in any profession, but especially important for people in the health profession.

I am really against germs. I will do anything in my power to prevent getting sick. I think that being sick is one of the worst feelings in the world. For this reason, I carry around Purell Instant Hand Sanitizer in my purse. Also, it was strongly reccomended by my professors as occupational therapy students to carry around Purell to help prevent spreading germs. About
Purell comes in a variety of different size bottles (8 ounces, 2 ounces, 1 ounce) , but I purchased the 2 ounce one since it is small enough to fit into my purse and you can get 30 uses out of this bottle. I purchased this for $1 at Walgreens. It comes in a small clear bottle with a flip top lid.
As you can see, alcohol is one of the leading ingredients.
Experience
Since I've started carrying this around in my purse, I use this after almost everything. When I am at a restaurant, before I eat, I break out the Purell, flip open the top, and squirt a nickel size amount into my hands. I rub them together and voila, within seconds my hands are clean, dry, and sanitized.
Purell claims to kill 99.99% of germs on my hands. I don't have a microscope, but I will bet it is safe to say that something is better than nothing. Of course, this is second to properly washing your hands, but in situations where a sink and soap & water aren't readily available, this stuff is wonderful.
The sanitizer is clear, and a little goes a long way. It is not drying, either. I use this product several times a day, and my hands do not seem any different. Even though it contains alcohol, it doesn't have a strong scent.
I think this is great for a variety of uses - doorknobs, elevators, phones, shaking hands, ATMs, etc. Even if your hands just feel gross and nasty, at least Purell can help make them feel a tad bit cleaner until you can get to a sink.
I think this product is better then towelettes because typically they are more expensive and then you have to worry about disposing the dirty towelette. It's not eco-friendly like Purell where you can just squirt it into your hands, rub your hands together, and be germ free in 15 seconds.
I give this product 5 stars because it is portable and is another great preventative method for cleaning my hands while I am on the go or when water and soap isn't readily available.
