| zoeym's Full Review: Qualcomm PDQ Smartphone |
I have a Sprint Kyocera Smartphone and so far I love it. The Sprint product is a Kyocera QCP 6035. I had a Palm VII to access the internet and stock quotes. But I have sold it. The Smartphone is an excellent combination of two technologies. Usually such efforts of combining two good things fail. However, by reducing the palm pilot screen, Kyocera has achieved a most acceptable compromise. I can access the internet through my service provider faster than I could through the Palm VII. I don't believe it will be more expensive to operate than the Palm VII and may even be less expensive. I will soon find out.
The literature says it will provide 5 hours talk time and 180 hours standby. So far, I have had no problem. it is powered by a lithium battery and comes with a charger. One of my problems with the Palm Pilot was the need to constantly replace batteries. This need seems to be eliminated unless I am away from the office for a prolonged period. A portable charges is available, however.
The Smartphone is larger than most cell phones, but does not seem much heavier. But I find the size to be an acceptable tradeoff for the convenience.
The Smartphone allows you to call directly from the Palm address book simply by tapping the number. Speed dialing and voice dialing is also provided. A nice feature is the speakerphone which was surprisingly effective.
The only other drawback besides size is the learning curve, especially if one has never had a palm pilot. Establishing a connection with the internet through an isp is fairly easy if your isp is one of those listed on the phone.
All in all, if you are looking for a palm pilot and want internet access, the price is not too bad for the convenience.
