dlstewart's Full Review: Quartet gbc 1765016 Supplies Shredders 100/roll, c...
There are a lot of shredders in my life, both at home and at work. While at home, I prefer to recycle shredded material and place it in paper bags. However, work is different. We use GBC Shredmaster Bags (Item 1765016).
Description
These plastic bags are mean to fit personal shredders and most other models according to the packaging. The bag size is 17 x 16 25. Each cardboard box contains a roll of 100 bags.
The bags are clear with writing on them. The messages on the bags warn to keep plastic bags away from children, with typical warnings of suffocation and that the bag is not a toy. There is also the GBC logo, USA address, and website URL.
My Experiences
A roll of bags is in a cardboard box, and the box is a bit on the heavy side. I wish the box had an optional slot to feed the bags through so that I didnt have to open the box every time. It would be great to pluck a bag free from the box just as one would pull a tissue from a box. However, there is no convenient slot, which means I need to open the box, tear a bag from the roll, and then close the box again. This isnt a huge inconvenience, its just a bit more time-consuming when Im in a rush to complete tasks.
The bags are excellent. They have deep pleated sides so that the bags open wide. There is only one seam, which is located at the bottom of the bag. This seam is heat-sealed for extra strength. I have never had one of these bags rip.
They are easy to use. We have several types of shredders: 1) Shredders that sit atop a trashcan, and 2) Shredding units that come with a bin. These bags work with both types of shredders, provided that the trashcan or bin will accommodate bags that are 17 x 16 25. Just unfold the bag, shake it out, and insert it into the bin. Fold the top edges of the bag over the top edge of the bin and set the shredding mechanism on the bin as usual. The shredding mechanism traps the edges of bag against the bin so that the bag stays in place.
Since the bags are clear, it is easy to gauge whether they are full. The downside to clear bags, though, is that everyone can see they hold shredded material. This isnt so bad when the shredder is a good cross-cut shredder that reduces paper sheets into indecipherable chips. However, if one is using a strip shredder and placing the strips in these bags why not just announce to identity thieves that you have a bag of shredded material that can be pieced back together.
Mind you, these bags are meant for holding shredded paper. I have no idea how they would hold up if one decided to use them as trash bags.
Purchasing
A box of 100 bags costs us about $25.00. They have a list price of $34.99.
Summary
Overall, these GBC Shredmaster Bags are excellent. The plastic may stretch, but the bags do not burst. We have never had a problem with them.
