If you want a place to indulge your taste buds or simply your"self", Ritz Carlton Dining Room ought to be the place for you. From the service, the wine list, the food itself, the ambiance, I don't think there is quite a restaurant in San Francisco that can top it at all.
I originally thought the Dining Room would be so classy that it may be stuffy, that I have to sit with my back straight the whole evening, that waiters may be snobbish if you ask silly questions, but it is a place where you can relax and just enjoy the full dining experience. It is not exactly a pin-drop kind of quiet restaurant, yet it is unlike a lot of San Francisco favorites where the noise level reach quite high on the bell level. I was very pleased with the friendliness of the waiters, the knowledge they have with the food and wine, and the frequent check with the diners of how the food goes.
In terms of the food itself, I had rabbit for entree. "Shoulder of rabbit stuffed with fresh herbs, lobster medallion, asparagus, morels." The rabbit was tender to the touch, and the herbs accented the dish without drowning the meaty flavor of rabbit. Lobster is just lobster, very tender, not overcooked. It almost seems like an odd combination, a twisted sense of surf and turf, but being a rabbit lover, I think I had the best rabbit dish in town. As for dessert, I had a soft cheese cake which is just cheesy enough, not too thick, not too sweet. Oh, and if you ever choose to pig out from their cheese selection, you will feel like entering the cheese haven.
I highly recommend Ritz Carlton Dining Room, and if you think it may be a bit expensive, I think for the service, the food, and the ambiance you get, you will find every penny is well spent. And it is probably the best place if you want to bring guests to enjoy some fine San Francisco dining.
