| daddyo702's Full Review: Rockford Fosgate RFP3412 Car Subwoofer |
I had quite a few combinations of sub-woofers and amplifiers from my yesteryears and so far, Team Rockford Fosgate beats them all. Pioneers were my first love, then Kenwoods broke my heart, Kicker Competitions (Free Air) did not satisfy me and alas, Rockford Fosgates HE's popped the question and I said I do. In all due respect to all the aforementioned brands, they all held their own. Trial and error has been a contributor and now, I'll stick with these one till she breaks.
For about 90 bucks a pop(cheaper on some online stores),it'll rattle you crazy till your convinced they're worth it. Just looking at it after you install them in a small sealed or vented box, which is recommended for these subs makes you go hmmm. They would handle 400 watts max which is the peak power but the RMS handling which is a not so meager 200 watts of continuous power seems underrated. This baby likes to go loud and low. They offer this feature called Fiberlock which is supposedly a specially bonded paper that would handle your low ends with good accuracy. In short they look good and they sound good. It also offers huge foam surrounds they call BART(don't really know what it stands for) and looking at the excursion of this sub does not only satisfy your ears but your other senses as well. It has ConCealer gasket which not only provide good cosmetics to it's total appearance(hides the screws) but also provide that much needed contact between box and sub. You just don't hear it, you feel it as I do in my rear view mirror that vibrates so much to the point it's harder to recognize a police car, no offense. I hooked this single 12 inch to a 2-channel Punch 250a amplifier which only runs 62.5 watts/channel but jumps it up to 250 when connected bridged. I have never seen the potential of this amplifier until the HE's which from what I was told is only categorized as "better" on the Fosgate line-up.
Make your match, do your homework. It would be very satisfying to have a sub-woofer that would handle a whopping 1000 watts but majority of amplifiers that would and could handle such power requires bigger and more expensive equipment. If you have the cash, you can have the stash. This is from a simple, self installed, low budget system that does not require separate cross-over, equalizers and multi speaker/amplifier configurations.
