elbarto69's Full Review: Altec Lansing ACS56 4 Speakers
Boy, Gateway sure was stupid to break their contract with Altec Lansing to go with Boston! I've had these speakers for over a year now and they show absolutely NO sign of aging. Some people might see the fact you need a digital sound card for these as a con, but really if you're serious about sound (and you must be if you're considering these speakers) you're either gonna have a digital sound card already or you're not gonna have a problem with getting one.
Some games that go well with these speakers include Quake III, Unreal Tournament, and Medal of Honor Allied Assault. Any shooter games out right now that utilize digital surround sound will sound so lifelike it's scary. If you position the speakers right, you'll have an advantage over opponents in that you can hear where anyone is clear as a bell. I recently went to an Unreal LAN party with about 30 other serious gamers, and let me say I wasn't surprised to see about 5 or 6 others with my speakers. The rest had either so-so speakers or entire systems. The person next to me had 4 Radio Shack floor speakers and a JVC receiver that sounded awesome, but I had no problem drowning him out. :)
If you're serious about sound, check these out, you won't be disappointed.
