Pros: Love the black PCB

| fattyburger's Full Review: Philips Seismic Edge Sound Card |
I bought this card based on good reports I'd heard about it's big brother, the Acoustic Edge. What I didn't realize what that this card features a different DSP (Digital Signal Processor), which obviously makes quite a difference.
Philips' support was very bad at the time (I don't know if it's improved). I bought this card late May, and the website was almost impossible to navigate (this coming from someone who spends a lot of time on the internet). I finally found a driver download section, only to find out the drivers had not been updated since release. Not a good sign.
The drivers took some time to install, I never did figure out what was wrong, but a friend of mine had the same problem as I did when he tried to install the same card on his computer (both Windows 2000 Professional), so I suspect it's bad drivers.
The sound quality was decent, but not spectacular. 3D positioning and EAX were both badly implemented, making it very hard to play games. I gave up on this card pretty quickly (after my similarly bad experience with the Sound Blaster Live), and bought a Hercules Game Theater XP. I've never been happier.
