Heirauqs's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 780 InkJet Printer
I made the decision to buy a Epson Stylus Photo 780 after reading several reviews off the net, especially Steve's reviews at http://www.steves-digicams.com/2001_reviews/epson780.html . I wanted a printer especially for photos printing as well as casual work. And man, what an amazing printers.
The first thing you see when you open the box is that Epson was kind enough to include samples of photo papers. You get one 8.5x11 photo paper and one inkjet hi-quality sheet. Yes, it's only 2 sheets, but then again, the printer was only $85.
Installation was really easy. Just make sure you get a USB cable though, as with most printers, it's not included. I'm using Windows XP RC2, so at first I was expecting some problems, considering I'm using a beta and unsupported OS. So I immediatly went to Epson's site to make sure I'm using the latest drivers. To my surprise, the drivers installed without a glitch and I was running in seconds. The printers then filled its heads, like all Epson printers, and it took a good 2 minutes to do. There was a small note in the printer warning me the process would be long, and I never had to go through that process after.
The first thing I did when the installation was done was printing a 8.5x11 photo on the sample sheet, using Epson's borderless technology. Oh man. I had high expectations on the printer, but this completly blowed me away. You can see the difference between this and real 8x11 photos, but you really have to look VERY carefully at the dots. It's an inkjet printer after all. Just make sure you use photo paper sheets though, as cheap papers drinks the ink too much.
I didn't buy the printer for text printing, but for me and I'd guess most of the people, the quality is well over acceptable. Normal color printing is also excellent.
So does this printer have flaws? Of course, yes. As others said, it's noisy, and it takes a while to begin the job. I'd say if photo is not the main use of the printer, you could find better. But for photos, you'd be hard pressed finding a better deal than this. This printer is really A-MA-ZING.
