| tobago45's Full Review: Lenovo ThinkPad TransNote 2675 (267522F) PC Notebo... |
After having owned Macintosh computers for 17 years, I finally relented and bought my first personal Windows based machine. I was not impressed with the mass of white and black boxes out there until I saw the IBM Transnote 2675.
Portfolio design, Lightweight and handsome I knew I had to have it. I have always been a sucker for great design work. The portfolio cover although synthetic has a nice live feel to it.
The user opens the computer like a book, on the right hand side is an electronic writing pad. There is special software that interfaces with the pad for organization or presentation. This software like the computer worked flawlessly right out of the box. That also included sending out e-mails of drawings from the "notepad". Almost like a Mac...
The small (10") touch screen (either stylus or finger) is very nicely done with a industrial quality feel.
The screen and image both flip for easy sales displays to a small group. The laptop is equipped with a 600mhz chip and a base 64megs ram that I popped that up to 128megs the first day. The computer also comes with two USB ports which I found handy with the external CD rom. A built in ethernet port and modem round out the package. As a sales and presentation tool I find the whole package effective and handsome.
Flaws? Yes, a couple. The battery has a short life and the absence of a onboard CD-rom is a little inconvenient.
The computer running Windows 2000 professional has been almost flawless. Compared to some Apple applications (Word especially!) I find the Wintel Apps a little crude and clunky, but they are not bad. The latest version of Excel on this IBM is especially nice to use. Overall a nice design with imagination not often seen today outside of Apple's lineup. Bravo IBM!
