Pros: Attractive unit, beautiful DVD playback, nice DVD options, ease of "2 in 1" system
Cons: VCR makes loud hum when playing or recording a tape
The Bottom Line: Nice picture and sound quality (of the actual tape and disc), great price for a good DVD/VCR combo. The only drawback is the HUM the VCR makes during use.

| groverxpup's Full Review: Samsung DVD-V2000 DVD Player / VCR Combo |
I got this player for Christmas of 2002 and haven't had it long enough to write a review addressing how it performs over time. I REALLY like this player and cite only one major drawback so far- the humming noise that the VCR makes when playing or recording a tape.
The DVD player works beautifully, both sound and picture, though it's slow to load the disk. There are some nice options, like making the movie fit your screen at the touch of a button (if the movie is capable of doing so), being able to watch a DVD and record a program on the VCR at the same time, and an option to have the sound stay consistent (lower the louder parts and increase sound of softer parts)- great for late at night viewing. I have noticed that I can't get the DVD player to play as loud as the normal TV or VHS tape (it's definitely fine for viewing though, just something I noticed).
I am a little disappointed in the VCR part for one major reason- there is a loud hum that comes from the machine itself (not from the TV) when it plays a tape. It's an issue with me because I feel that if my 10 year old Samsung VCR didn't make a sound when playing, a brand new 2002 model should be AT LEAST as good. It's particularly noticeable when the sound is lowered (for night viewing). I've called the product support number and brought it in to the place I purchased it, and I STILL don't know whether it's this particular unit or in all the units (maybe I'm particularly sensitive to it?) The recorded shows have a nice picture and sound (on the tape) and the timer has worked well thus far. It is a little irritating that when you program the VCR timer, you lose the program you're watching (even the sound) and switch to a programming screen.
I haven't used the unit to play back any CD-R, CD-RW, or MP3 disks, so I'm not sure if it has problems in reading the burned CDs, but regular CDs play without a problem and have a better sound than I expected.
Overall, I really like the unit- the way it looks and performs. Except for my one major complaint, I'm very happy with it.
