Recently my wife and daughter joined T-Mobile. A few weeks later I joined in with them. I received the Nokia 3595. I am very happy with that. My wife and daughter have this X-105 that I use on occasion. I also did some further studying and using it after my daughter lost her phone. I went to E-Bay to find a replacement for her. By using the X-105 I could try and make the better choice as to which phone to purchase.
SET UP
We didn't have to do anything for set up. This was done at the point of sale. The rep put in the sim card and made one single phone call. The phone was then activated and ready for use. I do like that a simple call to 611 gets me directly to customer care 24/7. I have used it only for some billing questions in ref to all our phones and the best rates.
IN the BOX
Once the box was opened we found the Sim-Card (Smart card), the hands free device, and the battery and charger.
Once again being with the rep made everything easy. Though I didn't put in the sim-card and battery, the rep did, I could see it's a simple process. The battery is part of the molded back of the phone and not a separate piece inside the phone.
The battery does need to be charged a while before full use. I don't like the battery charger connections this comes with. It is one of the small rectangular connections that must be put in just right and taken out carefully too. I always feel my big hands will tear the internal connections apart especially if I do not squeeze the tabs on it properly. I like the simple round "connect and disconnect" type adapters some phones like my Nokia offer.
This phone gives an audio warning tone and a display message when the battery is getting weak.
The INSTRUCTION BOOK
I can usually find most of the information I need from the book with the phone in hand. I like that the book that is issued is all in English. That makes it less cumbersome. I dislike having to have more text in a book than necessary.
The book is pretty clear in its content and through the use of diagrams and drawings makes most reference to it easy enough. The print is in two colours. A pink colour highlights the topics. The black fills in all the text.
I found that by going to reference I could find what I needed pretty easily. In-Call Options, Using the Menus, Text Messages, Picture Messages, Settings, Organization and more are easily found.
The Phone settings area is pretty simple to use and I recommend going there and checking out each page. There are settings I didn't even know existed like wallpaper, setting up memos, and writing in a "To do" list. There is even Currency Exchange option.
One quick note. We went to Mexico recently and I asked T-Mobile about calls there. The rep said they would take care of it from their office and they said I was good to go. When we tried calls out to the US we never got through. I still don't know why. I'll update when I do.
The PHONE
Though not heavy this phone has a good feel to it and is not too toyish in my big hands. The key board is similar to an older Nokia phone I had. It is simple to use and the pads respond well. I haven't had the problem of missed dials due to improper dial up. A bit of a change from the old nokia is the navigation key that is in the form of a circle. This is where the menu options are done. It works on a rocker switch type function in four different directions.
The display screen is a nice size and VERY bright. The icons are on the top with the text and graphic areas below. The graphics are clear and crisp though they are hard to read in bright sun. The bottom edge displays functions of the two soft keys below. I happen to like the icons above and not on the sides of the window. This makes the screen area look bigger, brighter and better.
On the top left corner of the phone is the service light indicating, when it's flashing, that services are available. This can be left on or shut off.
On the side of the phone is a volume adjustment. I frequently need this. I am particularly hard of hearing on a phone when there are outside noises. With this volume control, the sound comes up loud enough even for this guy.

OPTIONS
This phone does offer quite a bit beyond just regular phone calls. The menu takes you through and to these options.
The silent mode, that I have to use frequently on my job uses a good "stimulating" vibration. This is good. I don't miss calls. I use it for my message alerts too.
Many other customizing options are described and explained for easy set up. The basic of these is setting up the phone book. This phone can store three numbers under one name, a mobile number, work number and home number along with setting up an E-Mail address.
One thing I think is very cool is setting up numbers in caller groups. I can have all my business numbers in one group and if I receive a call from any of them I can have it set up to a particular ring chime. I immediately know if its a business or other kind of call. Unfortunately you cannot set up individual tones.
There is a speed dialing option on this phone too.
All phone numbers that are saved to your sim-card can be moved to another phone when the card is taken out. The phone memory can store up to 1,000 numbers. I still don't understand the difference of storage on the simcard vs the phone. Though I never used it there is a function that tells you how much space you have left for additional numbers.
For entering text there are a few different modes that are simple to use once studied. It took me a bit of a while to get this part right, but now I am pretty good at it.
I still have not mastered the T9 mode of predictive text that makes use of a built in dictionary but, I am getting better at it all the time.
I like sending text messages back and forth with my business partner when we know the other may be in a meeting.
It can be set up for individual letters, upper and lower case, and symbols too. One thing that makes text messaging easy for me is having some templates that already have preset messages I can set. This phone can store up to nine of them. Something like, "Busy now, I'll call you right back."
I CAN HEAR YOU!!
The ring tones on this phone are pretty good. I can hear the phone ring at a distance. Being hard of hearing, this is important. The truth is I probably scare half the people around me with the volume I have to keep it at. Hey at least I don't miss calls. I happen to like ring melodies of this phone
SUMMING UP
The batteries seem to hold up very well on this phone. The chime choices are loud enough for me to hear. The phone has good reception and it rarely drops calls. It is a lightweight phone that still has enough body that it doesn't feel like a toy. It also seems to stand up to an occasional drop etc. There is no speaker phone option that I have had in another phone. I miss that. All in all this is a good phone for our Team.
