| chefwfire's Full Review: Samuel Adams Boston Lager |
Okay, let's get down to the nitty-gritty. This is one beer that was able to put a dent in the wallets of the "big boys". An aggressive advertising budget was able to put this beer in the hands of people all over that when they had their first taste said "WOW! I thought beer was supposed to be pale and flavorless!" This is the standard that other microbrews and craft brews are judged by. I admit that I was a cheap beer drinker in the early years, when quantity counted and flavor didn't because after the 2nd Bud my tastebuds were dead anyway. After my first Sam, I have never gone back to cheap beer. Besides since Sam has nearly twice the alcohol content of "el cheapo", you only have to drink half the amount. When I used to have to drink a six pack of Bud to catch a buzz, I only need to drink 2 or 3 and feel relaxed.
Anyway, back to Sam. Sam lager has a refreshing flavor that comes from the hops, giving it a clean, lasting taste that balances the heavier malts. I have become like the Germans and actually enjoy my beer to be only slightly cooler than room temp (about 50 degrees or so). This allows the malt flavors to really come out. I am not a big fan of aggressive hops, but this is balanced quite well so that neither the hops nor malt overtake the beer. This leads to a beer that is "The Best Beer in America".
