| beckytcy's Full Review: Schick Wilkinson Sword Xtreme 3 Razors with Vitami... |
I love my Mach 3 razor, but my gym had a big basket of these Schick Xtreme 3 razors during the holiday season, so I decided to take a few to save a bit of money. The Gillette Mach 3 replacement blades can be a tad costly.
Once again, I learned that you get what you pay for. I don't know why I continue to make the same mistakes again and again.
The first time I used the Schick Xtreme 3, I got several nicks on my legs. And these weren't the small kind of cuts that go away right after you get out of the shower -- I needed Band-Aids and everything.
But, since I don't learn from my mistakes, as I said, I decided to give the razor another shot. I figured that maybe I had pressed down too hard or shaved too quickly. Or maybe the razor was just too sharp the first time I used it. I didn't realize that it is meant to be a disposable razor. But I should have disposed of it before using it at all!
After the second shave, I again wound up looking like I had fallen down on the sidewalk. I was going to wear a skirt or a dress for my New Year's Eve party, but I had to wear pants instead lest people see my legs, which at that point looked like those of a teenage skateboarder.
Last night, I tried the Schick Xtreme 3 one last time. It was all in the name of research, I told myself. Or perhaps I'm just a masochist. The cuts were just as bad as the first two attempts, if not worse! I counted five spots where I was bleeding. The worst injury was just below my right knee. It stung so badly that I had a hard time sleeping last night.
The Schick Xtreme 3 went out with the trash this morning. Never again will you cut me, Xtreme 3, never again. I feel like singing a Kelly Clarkson song.
Design
The Schick Xtreme 3 has an attractive design that's very different from any other disposable razors on the market. Its selling point is that it has a pivoting head and, as the name implies, three blades. The pivoting head does move to a variety of angles, so that's the one good thing I can say about this product. Another feature of the Xtreme 3 is that it has a strip of vitamin E that's meant to soothe your legs. Other disposable razors are more basic-looking and don't have this. I used plenty of shaving gel when using the Xtreme 3, and my legs do not look or feel soothed by the so-called vitamins at all. In fact, they seem drier than ever, and I had to use extra lotion this morning.
I believe that the Xtreme 3 is a unisex product as the packaging is teal and black. It's not particularly masculine, and it's not feminine either. The handle is black with teal accents. It's easy to grip and control the Xtreme 3 with it's contoured handle. Great! I can accurately point it to where I want it to cut me!
Oddly, I never had a problem using this razor on my underarms (sorry for the TMI); it seemed to perform worst on my lower legs and knees.
Besides the pain inflicted by the Schick Xtreme 3, another problem I had with this razor was that it was difficult to rinse the stubble out from the blades.
I don't see why anyone would use this as a disposable product when it's as large as the Mach 3 or other razors that use replacement blades. If people are throwing these away after each use, they're doing a disservice to the environment.
Good thing it's not shorts season! I'm sticking with the Mach 3 for good from now on.
Note: Most of my friends belong to the same gym that I do, and several of them have fallen victim to the Xtreme 3's evil ways. So I know it's not just me. Stay away! Your legs (or face or whatever) will thank you.
