My Experience
Often the little kids in therapy will open up the doors to the therapy closet and stand there, looking at the vast array of toys that are crammed inside. Often times, the Little Tikes School Bus catches their attention and they want to play with it during the therapy session.
"Oh! The school bus! I want to play with the school bus!"
The Little Tikes School Bus is bright yellow and is made of an extremely durable plastic. I say that the plastic is extremely durable because the one in the therapy closet has lasted several years and has withstood the test of time. The bus has driven over the edge of the treatment table and has plunged to the ground below many times and is still remains in great shape. It has survived quite a bit of a lot of rough play in therapy.
The school bus measures 11.75 inches long, 6 inches in height, and about 5 inches in width. It has four black tires that measure 2 inches in diameter. There are eight slots in the bus (little pegs) for the Little Tikes people (the tubby ones with no arms or legs) to sit in. There is a slot in the front for the driver; the driver slot looks a bit more like a seat since there is a slight back to the chair. There is a Stop sign that is located on the side of the bus on the driver's side. This sign can swing out and swing back in. There are three little steps to ascend the bus; red and white stripes help to delineate the steps. Placing the people into the bus seats is not difficult.
The little ones in therapy like to have the Little Tikes people ascend the steps of the bus and sit down in preparation of going to school. It is a bit difficult to maneuver the Little Tikes people up the steps and into the seats. Usually what happens is that the little ones can maneuver the Little Tikes people up the steps through the door opening of the bus but cannot turn the people to walk down the aisle of the bus. Then the Little Tikes are abandoned and lay on the floor of the bus until the little ones can get their hands through the side opening of the bus and pick the Little Tikes people up and maneuver them down the aisle. The kids in therapy love do roll the Little Tikes School Bus around and drive it places. There is a clicking noise of the wheels when the bus is rolled around; I thought that would be annoying but it adds uniqueness to the toy. It is easy for the kids to drive the bus around because of the handle on the top of the bus. The handle does not stick out, it is merely a cut out of the roof of the bus but it allows the kids an easy place to control the bus. I often scatter the Little Tikes people around so that the kids have to drive the bus (and move themselves) to pick up all the Little Tikes kids for school. The kids absolutely love this toy!
Overall Thoughts
I love the Little Tikes School Bus because it's durable, fun for kids, isn't annoyingly loud, and best of all, requires no batteries.
