I have just recently moved into a new house and my yard was bare but for an ugly Japanese Yew. So, I went tree shopping a couple of months ago and found a nice ash tree I will grow for its shade and for another big rectangular area, I bought two sago palms which I think are the prettiest palms that grow here in South Texas. I have had experience with trees before at my previous house and have always found that planting with Peters All Purpose Plant Food makes your trees flourish.
Peter’s Claim:

Unlike granular foods, you control the amount you feed. Granular foods can release nutrients unpredictably, but if you use Peters, you know exactly how much plant food your plants are getting.
The product:
The great thing about this product is it only takes one tablespoon to make a gallon application. I usually just buy a 10-ounce bag, which costs a whole two dollars at the Dollar General Store. This bag is plastic and resealable for easy storage. It comes in larger bags also. This product is like a granular powder, bright blue in color, and dissolves quickly in water so you know that it is all going where you aim it.
My Experience:
In the past, I have used this product on grass, plants and trees. It nurtured my daughter’s lemon seed that she planted when she was five into a handsome lemon tree although it didn’t have the same effect on her apple seed. It also kept my Queen Palms at my old house looking luscious and tropical. I also used it on my perennials to keep them colorful and strong.
Because it is so effective, I continue to use it in my new yard starting with my three new trees which I planted a couple of months ago. After digging the right size whole, I poured two gallons of this mix directly into the soil before planting and the next day, I soaked it down again with a couple more gallons. The root stimulator in the product is really good.
It has been effective with all the trees I have planted. The sago palms that I planted from pots are nice and green and healthy looking. The ash was a seedling with no leaves and I see a few little pods showing through now. I have plugged my yard with St Augustine grass also and I took a couple of bags and fertilized that too. It is spreading slowly but is healthy and green.
Conclusion:
I have been using Peters All Purpose Plant Food for years now. It is not only effective on perennials but also boosts root growth on new trees. It seems to keep everything the color it is supposed to be instead of a faded look that South Texas seems to produce through its heat.
I can’t say I have ever had a problem with this product and although an apple seed did not seem to thrive using it, that is the only plant that didn’t. I would recommend using it when planting new trees and also regular applications on lawns and plants for healthier brighter gardens.
