| three_ster's Full Review: Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Fertilizer |
I have really been trying to replenish the yards at home this year, and have grown tired of the dead patches that were there when I moved into this current house. I kept thinking that if I watered and mowed the lawn often and did it with care, that I could bring those areas back to life. Recently though, I came to realize that I was going to need a little help with that job, and I went out to purchase a couple new tools, new sprinklers, and most importantly; a big bag of the Scotts Turf Builder. Sure I had heard about it plenty of times, and seen various commercials on television, but I had just never really thought about using it to re-grow grass, instead feeling it was just for new grass. Well a quick stop at the local Shoko down the street netted me a 15 pound bag of the Scotts Turf Builder, and I felt prepared to really tackle my lawn.
This turf builder is a Lawn Fertilizer that they make with 2% iron. It says on the bag that it can be applied any time on any grass type, that it is guaranteed not to burn your yard, and that it will build thick green turf from the roots up. The intent of the product is to create a greener, stronger lawn by preventing and correcting yellowing from iron or manganese deficiencies. This combination of promises are all really great, because it isnt just one of those things to temporarily fix a problem with your lawn, but will help strengthen the grass so that it can keep growing for some time. The bag also notes that the process works through each of the particles in the bag containing nutrients that are basically time-released over 6 to 8 weeks. This is a great asset in my opinion, because it means the grass isnt getting all the nutrients in one quick swoop, but over an extended period of time.
On the back of the bag are some quick instructions on how you should spread the fertilizer around using a spreader, but the summation is really that you want it to be spread evenly over the area of the lawn you want to have attention. I decided to go all-or-nothing with my bag, and spread it over the entire lawn, including both the really healthy grass, and the parts that needed some help. I figured that it would be able to help the entire lawn regain its strength against the harsh summers here, as well as help it to grow thicker. A good suggestion here, is that when you are spreading this fertilizer, use gloves, and make sure not to get any of it on your skin, as it could cause irritation. They also advise you to not let it contact your clothes or driveway as it could stain that area. I didnt have it stain anything, and even though some of it did get on the concrete walkway, there was no staining for me. The application of the thousands of little granules went quite easily, and I proceeded to water the lawn till I thought it met the ½ inch of water that Scotts had recommended. If you think it is going to rain, you dont need to really use that much water.
A week after I applied the Scotts Turf Builder, I started seeing the results that I was looking for. While some of the areas started growing back quicker than others, the spots that did had an even brighter (and darker) green than the previous grass had given me. Slowly but surely, the other areas started catching up to the quickest growing spots, and now I have the beginnings of a really great looking lawn. This Scotts Turf builder has really done the trick for me, and its ease of application really sold it as a product that I could/will come back to in the future. I suggest that you keep watering the areas where you apply the turf builder in order to aid the whole growing process, and that from this you will receive the best results. My lawn didnt have any burning (which basically means the grass died off), and I am so very happy that I decided to splurge the $12.99 it cost me for this huge bag of Scotts Turf Builder. If you are looking to improve the color and texture of your lawn, and dont want to expend too must effort, this is a great product that nearly does all of the work for you. It is highly recommended.
