Pros: Comfortable at first.
Cons: Smelly! Nose plug or stuffy nose required. Not enough back support.
The Bottom Line: Save your money. These beds are overpriced, smelly, and gimmicky. Buy a conventional bed.

| lewisfamily503's Full Review: Select Comfort Mattress Sleep Number 7000 |
We bought the Eastern King Sleep Number 7000 bed a few weeks ago. We were thrilled to find a bed that both my husband and I could be happy with. My husband, being a handy guy, set up the bed when it arrived. When I came home later, it was ready to go. My excitement was quickly replaced with dismay when I walked into the bedroom and noticed an extremely strong chemical smell coming from the bed. My husband said he had noticed it also. However, we were so excited at the prospect of sleeping on the bed, we decided we could put up with the smell and hoped it would dissipate over time. Now I need to say that in spite of the smell, I slept like a baby the first night we had the bed. It was VERY comfortable. However, the next morning my clothes, the sheets, the pillowcases, EVERYTHING, reeked of a stench I can only describe as a petroleum, stale-smoke like smell. (My brother also got a sleep number bed at the same time and he commented that it smelled like "wet cement" to him.
Because we loved how comfortable the bed was, we tried to air the room and bed out with fans and open windows. Although it seemed better, we both awoke numerous times during the evening choking from the smell. Frustrated, we went back to the store where we purchased the bed. The salespeople were wonderful and very surprised to hear we were noticing a bed smell. They said they had never heard of this before. They were confident we had received a faulty foam mattress (the part that goes over the air bladder) and arranged for us to received a new one they would ship 2nd day air. They also said to remove the bad foam pieced and just sleep on the pillow top. That brings me to the next problem: We TRIED to sleep on just the pillow top that goes over the foam piece, but it was VERY hard and uncomfortable without the foam. After a mostly sleepless night, we were beginning to doubt the wisdom of spending over $3000 on a bed that was smelly and beginning to be quite a hassle. We waited three days for a new piece of foam and were very excited when it finally arrived. However, upon opening the box we discovered to our dismay that this piece of foam was actually worse-smelling that its predecessor. It was at this point that we gave up our quest of owning a sleep number bed. Once again we traipsed into the store and told the salesperson, thanks but no thanks. We are now in the process of shipping the bed back, AT OUR EXPENSE. We have since purchased a Simmons World Class Beautyrest mattress. We love this new mattress, it smells wonderful, is very comfortable (luxurious pillowtop!) AND over $1000 cheaper. My advice: Go ahead and buy a Sleep Number Bed. Just wear a top-quality nose plug.
