Ah, sleep. It is perhaps the most important, yet most often neglected aspect of our lives. We spend roughly a third of our lives in bed, and yet many people (myself included until I bought this mattress) put so little thought into their comfort at night. We sleep on mattresses that are too hard, too soft, or that have a dreadful ditch in the middle. And then we wake up in the morning wondering why our backs hurt and we can't concentrate at work. It's not aging! It's what we sleep on!
I myself was once in this category, giving very little thought to my bed and its effect on my day. I never really thought about it. It was just there. All of this changed when I became pregnant. By about the sixth month, I began to feel the strain of growing another human being inside my body. I was tired all of the time, and it was impossible to get comfortable at night, seemingly no matter what. On top of the actual physical discomfort of pregnancy, there was the fact that we were still sleeping on the same bed that my partner had owned since college. It was hard as a rock, and seemed to be sinking in the middle, and it squeaked unimaginably loud when you so much as looked at it wrong. I had been suggesting that we think of purchasing a new bed for quite some time, but he never took me seriously. Then, after one particularly horrid night of trying in vain to get comfortable, I absolutely insisted that we go mattress shopping. I was pregnant, exhausted, and angry (a combination that tends to get results!)
We went to several stores in our area, searching for the mattress that fit my exact vision of perfection. This was a taller order than it might seem. I wanted a mattress that would be attractive, durable, infinitely comfortable, supportive, quiet, and inexpensive. With the exception of the inexpensive part, I got exactly what I was looking for.
We intended to spend only about 7 or 8 hundred dollars on a bed, but when I first laid my poor pregnant body on the Serta Perfect Night Mattress, that intention went right out the window. We paid 1699 for this mattress, but I'm telling you, it was worth every penny.
The pillowtop is amazing. It allows the bed to be supportive, and still wildly comfortable. I don't know much about the inner workings of mattresses, but I can tell you that we've had this bed for a while now, and it is still in perfect condition. When someone sits down on one side, the person on the other side barely even knows. When you lay on it, it seems to hug your body's every curve. While I suppose you are supposed to flip this mattress on a regular basis, we have never done so, and it still has no sign of developing any sinking spots or lumps.
The only real bad thing about this mattress (and it's not really a bad thing at all) is that I am now officially spoiled rotten. I've gotten so used to this wonderful bed that just seems to mold to my body and support its every curve, that now whenever I try to sleep anywhere else, whether it's a hotel or my parents' house, I am just miserable.
This bed makes laying down at night a joy and a relief. If you want a mattress that will be attractive, amazingly comfortable, and that will stand the test of time, this is your best bed. I will never sleep on anything else. This one is just tooooooo good.
