callocam's Full Review: Sharp Aquos LC-37D43U 32 in. HDTV-Ready TV
I too have been searching for a hidef tv for just over a year. And have constantly been put off with the fact that I would need either cable or sat to get a hidef picture.
Well when finding the Sharp - AQUOS 32 Flat-Panel LCD HDTV - LC-32D40U, I was thrilled. It has a brilliant picture and vibrant sound plus the built in digital tuner. The tv was on sale at best buy from the usual 1299 to 899. And then I had a 12% off coupon which just sealed the deal for me.
The tv was a snap to set up. I picked up a amplified table top antenna from phillips that had a simple f-type connector. I performed the channel search just like the instructions from Sharp requested and I was able to pick up all my local networks in hidef for free! The enclosed instructions were clear and concise to follow.
Anyway, the tv has a very bright picture and when watching hidef shows in the evenings the picture quality is stellar. The onscreen menus are very easy to navigate. One menu has a signal strength meter that allows you to gauge the effectiveness of direction changes made with your antenna.
The only drawback I've noticed thus far is the audio outputs on the back. The digital outputs are coax not fiber. This is a problem because my sony 5.1 channel rec. doesn't have coax digital input for audio. But the tv itself has very good speakers.
The tv has a very attractive cabinet. Its black case has a nice polish on it and its stand looks nice too. The tv is resting on a black glass tv stand so the whole look is impressive.
The remote works well, is stylish, and is backlit. Just like any remote, it takes time to learn all the controls. I have noticed a slight delay when pressing the input button on the remote to when the tv responds.
We've been using the tv for a few weeks now, and are very happy with it. =)

After a good year of use wanted to provide a quick update. The tv has been working very well for our use. A couple of quick notes. I wanted to connect the tv to my rec. for 5.1 surround but wasn't able to. The tv does not carry a optical output. Although I hear they do now. There is a digital coax 5.1 output but its incompatible with my sony 5.1 rec which heavily uses optical connections. Over the holidays a xbox 360 was hooked up initially by the component cables, and the picture is amazing. Not much after that I upgraded to HDMI cables for the 360 and the picture is even better. Again this tv displays at max of 1080i. Lastly I wanted to mention a low hum that is constant when you turn on the tv. The volume has to be down very low to be able to hear it, but there is a hum. Once the volume is up to a audible level, its not noticeable.
