Pros: Great pool area, great for families, excellent location - best in Kanapaali
Cons: Expensive restaurants and drinks, other extra costs
The Bottom Line: No better place to be so convenient to excellent snorkeling and have a luxury hotel feel.

| grunion's Full Review: Sheraton Maui Resort |
We just returned from the Sheraton where we stayed with our 3-year-old daughter and infant son. After having read the comments on this and other websites I was a little nervous about what we would find but in all I think there was nothing to worry about. We would recommend it highly for families, as there seemed to be many.
Our room was great - large enough, nice lanai and a spectacular view right overlooking the cliffs, with Molokai and Lanai in the distance. Refrigerator and microwave, as well as in-room coffee pot, were much appreciated. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was fine.
When you're travelling with kids good service is sure appreciated and we had no complaints about the Sheraton. The staff was friendly and efficient with a nice "aloha!" from everyone we met. We only ate breakfast in the restaurant, and that was fine - service there was great and the buffet was not a disappointment. As others commented, the valet and bell staff were especially nice to us.
The pool facilities were just right - it didn't feel too crowded like other hotels, low-key but very fun atmosphere, with good poolside entertainment. The lagoons, small slide and waterfall were just right for us, and both young ones loved the kiddie pool.
The beach was great at Kanapaali and the Sheraton has the best location there. Not only is it right on Black Rock with its great snorkeling, but the slope of the beach is gentle enough so that although the waves were still rough one wasn't fearful of their children being swept away (as I felt when I took them on a walk further up the beach where it gets quite steep and dangerous).
The ocean front rooms were a good value with the package we got, their one drawback being it is quite a hike to the pool or lobby or restaurants. Fortunately parking was convenient to our room but I just wish the beach was more accessible to us. And the hotel is so large and confusingly laid out that even at the end of our trip we were still getting lost trying to find our room.
But in all it makes for a nice family vacation spot.
