| nagels's Full Review: Shop Vac Mighty Mini Portable Vac |
My name is Spudman and Im a vacaholic. In my waking hours when Im not involved with potatoes or Potato Heads, I can think of little else. They have a mesmerizing fascination for me that I cant explain. I can spend hours leisurely walking the aisles of Vacuum City, VacMart, and the Vacuum Emporium testing and examining every model until I experience vacuum cleaner euphoria and sometimes a state of levitation. While other men in the Sears electronics department watch football games on the big screen televisions, I wander the vacuum department anticipating my next vacuum purchase.
By chance I saw a Shop Vac Mighty Mini on sale at a neighborhood hardware store. Id never seen on before and havent seen one since in any of my travels in the never ending quest for bargains. The discounted price got my attention as did the size and configuration of this unusual ShopVac vacuum cleaner.
This diminutive little brother in the ShopVac family measures approximately 15 by 6.5 inches. The grey, plastic body of this utilitarian vac coordinates well with the black cord and attachments. Its a relatively light machine with a comfortable, built in handle for carrying. The reach of its six-foot hose can be extended further by adding one or two included wands or one of the four included vacuuming tools.
Additional features include:
Compact, lightweight and portable for convenient, quick clean-ups
Built in-rear wheels and front glide provide mobility.
Plug clip and handy wrap feature allow neat cord storage.
1.25 hose can be used with other 1.25 Shop-Vac accessories.
Its six-foot hose is equipped with a curved wand and airflow control.
Included with the Mighty Mini are two 20-inch extension wands, multi-surface floor nozzle, crevice tool, utility nozzle, round brush, disposable filter bag and secondary filter and a wall mount bracket.
Shop-Vac Corporation warrants this vacuum for two years in normal household use.
Personal Experience
Though I have more vacuums than one would normally have, this one fills a necessary niche and does it well. Originally I thought this would be a great machine for vacuuming the car, and with its power and portability I couldnt ask for a better car vacuum. Ive also found the Mighty Mini the perfect vac for cleaning the stairs. Holding the vac in one hand and the hose in the other hand, I can make quick work of the flight of stairs leading to our second floor. Lugging the upright up the stairs can be a bit cumbersome and ungainly. Compared to the heavy upright the Mighty Mini is small potatoes.
For occasional touch ups and spills the Mighty Mini is also extremely convenient and effective. With the suction control built into the hose end, its also great for vacuuming furniture and throw rugs.
Changing the bag and secondary filter is intuitively simple. Be aware, however, that bags for this machine are not readily available in retail stores. A web search will quickly turn up online businesses that carry bags for the Mighty Mini for reasonable prices. Because of postage costs, I usually order enough bags to last me one or two years each time I make a purchase. This saves money in the long run.
The Mighty Mini has been a great addition to my little vacuum fleet and has served us well for the last two years. Its not a whole house vacuum, but an owner will certainly find many appropriate uses for this handy, little vacuum.
EXCERPTS FROM THE OWNERS GUIDE
Dont allow the cleaner to be used as a toy or to run unattended.
Do not use your cleaner as a sprayer of flammable liquids.
Do not pick up burning cigarettes with your vacuum cleaner.
Dont abuse the cord.
Use extra caution when cleaning on stairs.
This vacuum is to be used indoors and for dry pick-up only. (I interpret the interior of a car as indoors.)
STAY ALERT. Watch what you are doing, and use common sense. Do not use a vacuum cleaner when you are tired, distracted or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication causing diminished control. (Wow! Im almost always tired or distracted. Guess Ive been lucky so far.)
