yayapex2's Full Review: WELA electronic Mini Digital Camera
In the past year and a half Ive been active on these sites known as Fanpimps or Enthusiast fan communities; these sites are dedicated to promoting a particular video game. Sites like these have many different types of challenges like taking a picture of a certain item, and others like making posters or a making some fan fiction stories. Then I would earn points for these submissions which I later use to buy swag. When a friend of mine told me that he bought a digital camera for $15, I didnt believe him. When I looked at it I knew it was worth the investment especially for these Fanpimps.
Whats In The Plastic?
This package came with the camera, a USB cable to connect the camera to the computer, a setup disk to install programs to view of the pictures in the camera, and one AAA battery. The camera itself is 2in. wide, 1.5in. tall and .5in. in depth. There are only two buttons on this camera, one on top to snap a picture, and the other one in the front to select a task like delete picture or to turn off. To help select what task you what to do, you can look at the display right in the front screen; it will show letters like CL to clear the most recent picture or CA to clear all pictures.
Its like watching HDTV!
There are two different sized pictures you can take with this camera 640 x 480 pixels (about the size of a square made with your thumb and pointer fingers) or 176 x 144 pixels (much smaller). For the different challenges that I do for these Fampimps, the 640 x 480 pictures are a perfect size for me. This camera can also hold twenty 640 x 480 sized pictures and sixty 176 x 144 sized pictures. One thing that Ive noticed is that this camera is horrible to use in the dark; the picture is pitch black. For the most part I have to take these pictures near a window during the day or right outside. If I was forced to take a picture at night with my bedroom light on, the picture would just come out yellow. You could say that it looked cheesy. This camera also lags when taking a picture; it's usually takes two to three seconds until the picture is taken, and once in a while it may take four seconds. This camera can also be used as a webcam but it doesnt come with a stand; youll have to be creative and make one yourself.
You Have Been Programmed To Kill.
The two programs that come with the disk are MyCam CIF and Photo2Album. MyCam is used just to view the pictures in the camera and decide which ones you want to keep and save; theyre automatically saved as a JPEG. If you have the camera attached to the computer, the camera acts like a webcam but doesnt record though. You can aim around your room and when you see an image you want to snap, just click. Photo2Album is just a basic picture editing program. I never really used it but the few times that I did, I found it to be pretty easy to use.
I Hate Keychains!
This little camera is so easy to carry around; its smaller that 90% of all cell phones (Im making that figure up but you get the idea, right?). It also can be used as a keychain but I personally wouldnt do that; I hate keychains and prefer to carry the least amount of anything that I can, including keys on a ring. Im just letting you know that the offer is still there. One thing that I didnt realize was that the battery gets wasted if you never use the camera. Ever since then I always take the battery out unless I have pictures stored; the pictures will get deleted once the battery is taken out. There is also a little window that needs to be pushed up to aim the camera; its horrible when taking pictures up close because it becomes completely off center. Its not too bad when youre about eight to fifteen feet away.
Sergio, Who Exactly Would You Recommend This Camera To?
To tell you the truth, this item is actually obsolete. Many people these days are getting cell phones with built in cameras; its almost mandatory to have them. However, if you know a child that is good at using a computer, I dont see why he wouldnt enjoy something like this. He could take it to school and take pictures of his friends just for fun. I use this camera a few times a week just to take a picture of some character I made up or to take a picture of a receipt of a game I bought just to prove the world that I bought it. The $15.00 I paid for this camera was a great investment; Ive earned well over $100 worth of prizes.
