| Magick1's Full Review: Smart Ones Stuffed Turkey Breast |
I, as you probably can tell by my other numerous reviews, enjoy eating these Weight Watchers® Smart Ones® meals. I seem to have tried a few dozen, I think! They do have a wide variety available, and I like to switch things up, as I hate the same old same old, routine!
This meal popped out at me from the Bistro selections in the freezer one day. I thought turkey breast sounded delicious. I dont usually have a lot of turkey products throughout the year for some reason. I dont know if I like to celebrate the delicious flavor during November and keep it super special so that I enjoy it more and am more thankful, or what. But, this little dish might have me changing my mind about that.
The Product
This is a microwavable meal that takes roughly 3 ½ - 4 ½ minutes (depending on your microwave. If you need to use a conventional oven, you can. But, it will take 40 minutes on 350 degrees. This meal had a decent portion of vegetables and stuffing! There were red potatoes, carrots, green beans and the bread crumbs. There were two decent sized turkey slices that were apparently cut off a turkey loaf, as the slices were nicely shaped (oval) and cut roughly a quarter inch thick. They were tender and had a delicious turkey flavor to them! And to help keep the turkey and stuffing moist, there was a light turkey gravy in the dish as well.
Be careful microwaving because there is not a tremendous amount of gravy. The gravy is a bit sparse and you can dry out the bread crumbs pretty quickly if you over do it in the microwave! But, if you do not over do it, the breadcrumbs and the vegetables are excellent. The vegetables had the nice tender crisp texture making them perfect and they tasted steamed rather than lost in a microwavable meal.
The potatoes and the stuffing really were my favorite parts. They state that the vegetables are buttery on the box. Whatever they are using to give it the buttery flavoring is perfect, as it makes everything taste delicious. And, I am not a huge gravy fan to begin with, so the sparse amount of gravy in this meal, for me, is great. But, occasionally when I have over done the microwaving, I notice that the bread crumbs are dried out and I wish for a bit more gravy to soften the bread crumbs (or stuffing) up to make them more palatable!

Overall Impressions
I enjoy these Smart Ones® meals for the most part. There have been a few misses that I have come across. But, just because they dont appeal to me doesnt mean tons of others dont enjoy them. One thing I dont understand and I keep thinking about when I type up the ingredients and the nutritional information, why doesnt Weight Watchers® makes these a bit more healthy. I mean, the sodium alone can blow your day in one small meal! Think about most people watching what they eat, or dieting. They are watching calories and likely are doing 1,200 or 1,500 calories, right? If they are using a 2,000 calorie diet and the sodium on that scale is 36% of the daily intake, for 1,200 or 1,500, wouldnt that be more around 60 or 70%? I am not sure of that figure, but you get the idea.
Also, why doesnt Weight Watchers® make the meals healthier by skipping all of the added sugars and things like the corn syrups, dextrose, etc.? I am not an expert, but I would think they could make the meals be a bit more natural, but likely, then, they would lose the good flavor.
I should get back to the meal. If you are watching the points, this meal counts as 6 points. Its higher on the list than some others, but I believe its worth it. It had a nice portion of vegetables with a decent buttery flavor, and the stuffing and the turkey were very delicious as well! I truly enjoyed this meal and will purchase it again! Keep an eye out for sales in your local market, you should be able to get 2 meals for $5 or better, 3 for $5. Stock up when they do go on sale! They are easy to take to work, quick to fix and they have a lot of variety available!
