Best mid-level treadmill for the money

Cons: Heart Rate Control issue, required a free upgrade of components
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for the most reasonably-priced, mid-level treadmill on the market, this is the treadmill for you.

Generally:
My wife and I purchased a Smooth Fitness 9.1HRC Treadmill back in December just to keep in shape and exercise some while watching TV. It was very easy to assemble and is extremely sturdy, easy to use, not too loud and very comfortable to run on. The display is very user friendly and you can track your progress very easily. You have to turn the TV up some, but not too high and you can still have a conversation over the noise.
Customer Service:
We did have a problem, however, with the Heart Rate Control, which would "freeze" when the treadmill was in motion. Customer Support was very responsive in attempting to fix the problem, which unfortunately persisted. Eventually, a VP with Spirit (affiliated with Smooth I assume, handles their servicing?) called us directly to address the problem. He notified us that an upgraded console and heart rate control would be shipped to us shortly. We received the equipment this week, installed it and everything works great now! We understand that glitches can happen, but customer service was excellent and we are very pleased with the outcome.
Optional Equipment:
Don't spend any extra money on the features advertised like the Stretch Frame (unless you are REALLY tall), 3.4HP Motor (the wiring in your house can't take advantage of it anyway), Aeropedic Belt (not necessary, and a nice pair of running shoes is a better investment), or Whisper Deck (again, not necessary). Even the salesman told me these were a waste of money.
Value:
This is a great treadmill at an excellent price for what is practically a commercial-grade piece of equipment. We were wary about purchasing such a major item over the Internet sight-unseen, but we couldn't be happier. The Smooth treadmill is such a better buy than anything you could buy at a local exercise equipment store.
