Always on the look out for variety to spice up my dogs treat pantry, I brought home a large package of Snausages Beef and Cheese Flavored Snacks. I had heard very good things about these chewy, bicolored snacks and decided to give them a try. I lucked out and found a 100 piece, thirty-two ounce tub at my local wholesale warehouse for a very decent price.
When opening flavor seal foil from the package of bite sized treats, I noticed a very strong pungent smell that my nose did not like. My dogs, however, smelled these treats from another room and came running. From feeding them treats of similar ingredients, beef and cheese flavors, I immediately knew that my guys would enjoy this fairly healthy snack.
I like that the ingredients do include real beef as the second ingredient, as well as real liver further into the list. The cheese is a dried product that my boyz seem to find quite appealing. There are, however, a few not so desirable ingredients that pet owners who prefer to go all natural would not find too appealing. This Del Monte Pet Product does contain artificial colors, Yellow 6, Yellow 5 and Red 40 as well as BHA and citric acid preservatives.
~What My Dogs Think ~
Clyde, my more mature two year old German Shepherd, is the more reserved finicky eater when it comes to new treats. If he is unsure if he will like a new treat he will sniff it first and touch it with his paw before doing a taste test. This was his initial reaction to the little red hot dogs in the dark yellow cheese blankets. After given the Snausages the once over Clyde did munch the treats and seemed to enjoy the flavor.
Ozzy, on the other hand, is much less selective when it comes to treats and food in general. I tossed him a Snausage and he devoured it immediately. No questions asked.
It is suggested to feed these treats as a snack. My guys get three to four of these yummy morsels per day.
My overall recommendation is a positive one. Buy Snausages Beef and Cheese Flavor Snacks for your canine buddies. They will like the addition of real beef and won't mind the artificial colors or preservatives. My dogs have had no digestive disturbances from these treats whatsoever nor have they had any problems with eating their regular meals afterwards.
