Pros: Easy set-up, uses little space, sounds good, looks great.
Cons: Not for audiophiles. Remote control feels fragile. Only works with included speakers, no others.
The Bottom Line: If you are not an audiophile, this will easily satisfy you. I'm extremely happy with it, and I overpaid!

| cnjb's Full Review: Sony DAV-C900 Theater System |
My wife selected the DAV-C990 without my knowledge, and I was skeptical at first. I assumed that buying a DVD/receiver in one unit was like buying a TV/VCR combo. The price put me off a little as well.
Then I set up the system. After tweaking the settings, which was surprisingly easy, I played a few DVDs at high volume to check out the sound. I was amazed! I turned the volume up as high as it would go, which was 40. 40 may not sound like much, but I would never watch an entire movie at that volume. It's simply too loud. My ears were hurting, and there was no hint of distortion. The sound was perfect to my non-audiophile ears. The room it's set up in is about 20'x15'. I have not tried it in another room yet.
The system looks great. I was able to get rid of a huge, bulky receiver and a DVD player. The DAV-C990 cut down dramatically the mess of wires you'd normally see behind such a setup.
The few "cons" I listed would be serious drawbacks if the system sounded poor, or was simply average. The performance of the system makes it worth purchasing even with the cons. This is not a cheaply made system in a pretty package. It is a great piece of technology in a pretty package.
P.S.: My wife bought it at BestBuy.com...BIG MISTAKE! We could've saved at least 100 (up to 200) dollars by looking elsewhere.
