l8gr8av8r's Full Review: Sony MDR-V150 Professional Headphones
I purchased these headphones to accompany my Brainwave generator program on my laptop. Having good experiences with Sony headphones in the past, I figured that they would be a good buy. I should have looked harder.
Construction:
These headphones are constructed with cheap, black, Sony-esque plastic with some sort of pseudo leather covering on the earcups. The actual output area within the earcups is about one and half inches in diameter which greatly constricts bass production in my mind. The drivers are 30mm, which are smallish, but average for these kinds of headphones. There is no shape bias to conform to ears or to help tell which side of the channel you have on which ear. You must read the label on the ear cups.
Comfort:
I believe I have average size ears, yet these headphones DO NOT cover them. Pressure is light with it distributed evenly among the earcup pads. So light in fact that any extended headbanging will result in sudden displacement of the headphones. Extended wear is not comfortable.
Sound Quality:
Frequency response is advertised as being betweet 18-22000 Hz. I have found this to be mostly accurate as this set has great difficulty reproducing sub-aural vibrations that can be felt on the face and skull (think subwoofers). Impedence seems to be high as a noticible increase in output levels is required to produce the same volume level between this set and my set of Jensen headphones.
In Summary:
I would not recommend this set to anyone looking for a superior audio experience. If you are looking for a simple, cheap pair of headphones that look cool, then this is your set. If not, look elsewhere.
