| mountainbiker2's Full Review: Sony SVR-3000 TiVo |
This was to be my first DVR purchase so I wanted to make the right decision. I read review after review and still could not decide, because the reviews were so varied in opinion.
I decided to try the Sony DVR-3000 and the Replay 5040.
Sony's setup was a dream, the user interface was typical Sony Quality, easy to read and understand menus and graphics. Sorry to say I can't say the Same for the Replay unit, confusing, dated technology, this is the 00's not the 80's.
Even though the Sony does not have digital audio out, the audio quality was superior to the Replay which has digital audio out. (Neither unit's audio compares to the digital audio of my digital cable box going directly to my Audio Video Receiver)
Also the video quality of the Sony is superior to the Replay unit, however both units suffer some video loss. One key plus for the Sony is it offers 2 S-Video outputs, which I use.
Sony's remote will control your cable box channel change through the use of the IR emitter, included with the unit. This remote also controls your television, and the volume control of your audio video receiver.
In addition if you have a Sony VCR, this remote will control your VCR functions.
Sony includes everything you need to set this unit up, including an S-Video cable.
This unit will please you if you are in the market for an DVR, you may pay a little more but the Sony is worth the extra price.
