hhassell99's Full Review: Soothing Vapor Baby Bath
Johnson's Soothing Vapor Bath has been used in this household since January 2001. My baby has been congested since he was born, and since he is so young I was uncomfortable giving him any medication. When I saw the Vapor Bath at Walmart, I knew I had to give it a shot.
It was family bath night, and I decided to see how good this stuff really is. Following the directions on the bottle, I put approximately 3 capfuls of the Johnson's Vapor Bath into the running water. The aroma of menthol and eucalyptus soon filled the room. At first, I found the smell rather strong but within a few minutes I couldn't even notice. It foamed up very nicely, impressing my four-year old with the long lasting bubbles.
But the best part was the relief it brought to my children. My oldest son (4 years) has asthma and allergies which causes him to have a constant nasal drip. After using this bath, he started to clear up and breathe easier. My baby (1 month at the time) also cleared up instantly. In the morning, neither of the children were congested or coughing.
Let's not forget mommy! I went into the bath with a huge sinus headache and got out of the bath feeling clear, calm, and pain-free. I am sure the relaxation factor of a bath had something to do with it, but I know the vapor bath did as well.
With my oldest child I have had to use a vapor-rub (such as Vicks) in order to help him sleep. This has been a constant battle as the rub is way to strong for him and he acts like it is pure torture to have the medication rubbed on his chest. Now that I discovered Johnson's Soothing Vapor Bath I don't need the vapor rub anymore. The bath is not too strong and it does help him tremendously. Also, both of my kids have extremely sensitive skin and yet I noticed no reaction when using this product.
The only con I can really see with this bath is that it is pricey. I spend anywhere from $3-$4 dollars a bottle and a bottle MAYBE lasts me two weeks. I love using this product, and will use it in conjunction with my other bubble baths as well.
To appease the masses, I have included an ingredient list. *On a personal note, I normally don't find ingredient lists helpful on a review like this for two reasons - 1) I can read a label myself and 2) I don't know what half of this stuff actually is. However, I know there are those out there who do care, so here is what I found on the label:
One Final Note - Although my baby was about 1 month old when I used this product with him, the label on the product bottle states that it is recommended for babies 3 months and older. Also, it cautions to seek medical advice if asthmatic or sensitive to the ingredients before using. I strongly suggest following this advice because menthol and or eucalyptus can trigger an asthma attack - and I am speaking from experience here. If you have any questions about the product you can contact Johnson and Johnson at 1-800-526-3967 or got to their website at www.yourbaby.com.
