| jwilmeth63's Full Review: Spring Air Comfort Caress Collection Mattress |
After looking at different mattresses until we were dizzy, we finally selected a Spring Air, based on the local store which was owned by an individual I felt I could trust. The mattress was pricey! Very pricey! I might add here, we paid upon delivery and were never given a receipt.
When the mattress was delivered and set into our frame, it was 2-3" narrower and 5 to 6" shorter than our old mattress. When I questioned the seller, I was told this was within required limits. My husband and I had to roll up blankets to stuff between the mattress and headboard to fill the space. I should have realized at that point that this product was something to question.
Three months after purchase, settling of the pillow top began. Mattress was also losing any firmness it had previously had. We found that once the mattress warmed from our bodies, that it began to slowly collapse/sink around us. Asked seller and he said, not his problem & I should file a complaint with Spring Air. Independent inspector came, and his report to Spring Air said all was normal. I question as to the independent nature of this inspector since he was paid by Spring Air.
I filed a complaint with State Dept. of Consumer Fraud. They mediated with Spring Air for months and eventually almost a year.
After contacting Consumer Fraud, Spring Air sent paperwork, that was apparently to have been given to us at the time of sale, saying "settling of their pillow tops was normal up to 1 1/2." Ours, in 3 months had settled 1 1/2" when no one was in the bed, but when you got on the mattress it collapsed down about 8 inches at this point. How it settled when on the bed is not a valid measure of settling, according to Spring Air.
Then after Consumer Fraud attempted to mediate more with Spring Air, they reported that we didn't have enough support under the mattress. We did - everything that they said we didn't have, we had and even more, so we took pictures and sent them to the State mediator who sent them to Spring Air. After 2 1/2 months, there was no response from Spring Air in regard to the pictures. The State mediator was not getting them to return her calls. At this point, both my husband and I were not sleeping well at all due to the extensive collapse of this inferior product. In fact, my back began to give me so much pain that I was sleeping on the sofa every night.
Since Spring Air refused to do anything at all about their inferior product we ended up buying another mattress, this from a local company who makes mattresses at their small factory. They have a policy that 1/2" is the maximum a mattress should settle and they guarantee replacement.
At the end, the State Consumer Fraud mediator was so disgusted with Spring Air's lack of communication and unwillingness to negotiate, and how they came up with excuse after excuse whenever we proved them in error.
The last I heard from Spring Air was a card received in the mail requesting another inspection by yet another "independent" inspector. I ran it through the shredder. Too late guys. We have dumped your crappy over-priced mattress and will continue to tell everyone we know that your product is inferior, and that you do NOT stand behind what you make.
