Getting Whipped Never Felt So Good!

The winter months are hell for me; my skin just isn't used to sub-zero temperatures and the flesh ripping winds that often accompany it. My usual lotion for windburn is Eucerin Original Moisturizing Creme but it isn't always practical to be carrying around that huge white tub with me. When someone suggested trying out the St. Ives Whipped Silk I sort of chuckled; there was no way some 'girlie' smelling lotion would ever help my almost raw hands. Seriously folks, they looked like they had been dunked in boiling hot grease and rolled in salt – that's how bad they were after three days of almost zero temperatures. Yes, I had gloves on but I had to do a lot of shoveling and the slat must have made its way through the gloves and on to my hands. My first purchase was the small two ounce two of the Whipped Silk and after I saw how great it worked I invested in one of the large bottles. Now I refill the small bottle and carry it with me wherever I go.
St. Ives Swiss Formula Whipped Silk Body Moisturizer
When it comes to lotions and creams [or crèmes depending on how you spell it], I am not one to go with the floral or fruity scents. I want something that is going to get rid of dry skin and help to prevent cracking when skin is dry. Usually my fingertips are what get the worst of it, those annoying cracks that happen right on the sides of the nail can take weeks to heal and ever time you go to grab something, whatever healing has happened is voided when it splits open again. I didn't think that this stuff would be strong enough to help with the severe windburn that I had; as I mentioned, it honestly did look like I dipped my hands in grease. It was so bad that I was actually embarrassed to go anywhere with my hands uncovered. I used this for about two days before the redness started to fade away. I know that if I would have used Eucerin it would have worked faster but that is a little on the greasy side until it sinks into your skin.
Another problem with using Eucerin is that I have long hair; until it starts to sink into your skin, if you get it on your hair, well, it leaves your hair looking greasy. I will admit that I do put more on than I need to but that is one of the only ways to ensure that you are getting the coverage that you need. The St. Ives Whipped Silk doesn't stain clothing nor does it leave your hands feeling greasy but it does take a while for it to penetrate your skin. If you get it on other parts of the body, it's no big deal because this can be used on your entire body hence the tagline, "intense body moisturizer". The smell is light but it definitely has a scent to it; nothing that is obnoxious or offensive but when you put it on, people know it. The guys at the shop have used this when they were out of their regular "manly" hand cream but only as a last resort.
Cost wise, this is a lot cheaper than the Eucerin or the stuff from Bath & Body Works and I really like that I have the small flip top bottle that I can take with me wherever I go. The larger bottle that I keep in the bathroom set me back about $4.50 which isn't that bad in my opinion. The small two ounce bottle that I refill, $1.29 at my local Target store. If I'm not mistaken the one that I picked up is the largest on the market but not something that is available all the time as it is the 'bonus 33% more free' size. I won't stop using Eucerin on my feet and legs, I need something that packs a massive punch on those areas but for my hands, arms and face, this stuff works great and I don't have to worry about spooning the Eucerin into a container to take with me or having it get in my hair when I apply it to my face.
The Bottom Line
Forget about the scent, forget about the price, when it comes to lotion to soothe dry skin I want something that is going to work and Whipped Silk does the job nicely. It's inexpensive compared to others on the market and I really like that the scent isn't something that totally overpowers you. The only negative that I have to say about this is that it does need to be reapplied every few hours in order for it to help with severely dry skin. You should read over the ingredients first to see if there is anything that you may be allergic to since this contains some exotic ingredients. I've never had any problems with it but that's not to say that everyone will have the same stellar results.
