| csmith75's Full Review: St. Ives Whipped Silk Body Moisturizer |
I purchased my first bottle of St. Ives Whipped Silk moisturizer from the supermarket. After reading a review on epinions about this product, I searched for it high and low. I couldn't find it anywhere and happened upon it while grocery shopping one evening.
Size, Price, Feel
I purchased a 14 fl oz. bottle for approximately $3.99. It's not your typical "lotion" bottle with a pump top. This moisturizer comes with a flip top and you must squeeze the product through a small hole. But don't worry! This moisturizer is very thick and creamy, so you won't have to be concerned about the product rushing out the bottle.
The only scent available was "Fresh Orchard Mist". The scent is the best thing about this moisturizer. I had a doctor's appointment last week and both my doctor and her assistant complimented me on my "perfume" and the only thing I had used was this moisturizer. Both remarked that it smelled fresh! It's not a heavy scent but it definitely doesn't dissipate after being on your skin for a couple of minutes.
Whipped Silk is a thick and almost creamy moisturizer. Once you have used about half of the bottle you will have to shake and squeeze the bottle in order to get it to come out. When you squeeze it out into your hand it has the texture of a thick whip cream.
Claims
Whipped for indulgent skin therapy, proven to leave even the driest skin silky soft, never greasy.
Performance
When I first squeezed the product out, I was very concerned that it was too thick. I was worried that I would spend half the morning laboriously massaging it into my skin. Fortunately, I was wrong. It was absorbed with absolutely no problem and no difference from any other lotion that I used. It left my skin smelling great, moisturized, and soft.
Pros
1. Scent - as I mentioned several times before, this smells great. I never put on perfume after using this because I love the scent by itself.
2. Absorption and Softness - this absorbs easily into my skin and leaves it soft. There's only one moisturizer that I've used that beat this in the softness category and that's the body lotion by Ahava.
3. Price - this is a reasonably priced moisturizer, compared to other drugstore and grocery store products that costs upwards of $7 or $8.
Cons
1. Moisturizing properties - although this does moisturize my skin effectively, I can tell that it will not handle my "winter" skin. My skin gets extremely dry during winter and I need something with a little more moisturizing ability. The bottle advertises it as an "intense body moisturizer", but I really don't feel that's accurate, at least in my case.
Overall Opinion
I will definitely use this lotion during the summer months. The scent is great, it leaves my skin soft, and it's moisturizing enough during this time period. However, due to the changes my skin undergoes during winter, I will need to use something a little more moisturizing.
