eatmor's Full Review: Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic for Xbox
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is an addictive game that can take over your life for a few weeks straight. You will have to discipline yourself if you get this game it is simply too entertaining. The best attributes of this game are the story line, different paths you can take, and fighting as a Jedi.
Story Line
The setting is the Old Republic well before Episode I. This is a time where Jedi are many. This is also a time of a great war between the Republic, aided by the Jedi, and the Sith, who are led by the Dark Lord of the Sith. You start out on a ship being attacked by the Sith because there is an important Jedi on your ship. Your journey takes you to seven different planets in the Star Wars Universe, some we know about and others are new to us.
Throughout the game, you are given interesting facts about the Republic, the Sith, the Jedi, and the rest of the universe. There was much thought put into these facts and the background of the game. During game play, you are given a chance to learn much about the Star Wars Universe and the Old Republic. The story line answers many questions with great imagination.
Different Paths
Before you start the game, you can customize your character picking either a soldier, scout, or a scoundrel. Furthermore, you can choose the traits your character starts with or let the computer decide. During game play, you can earn lightside or darkside points by your actions. Those points affect the way you can use the force when you become a Jedi. Choosing the follow one path or the other or even your own way in the middle, affects the way you handle things. For example, one decision I made earning me dark side points turned the entire Sith Academy against me. There are so many ways to play out this game you will want to play it through several times.
Fighting as a Jedi
I already listed the watered down lightsaber as a con of the game. So, what else is there to being a Jedi? How about the many powers your character will command as a Jedi. There comes a point when the lightsaber isn't the weapon of choice because your powers are so great. This game is as close as you can get to actually being a Jedi.
