| stockholder's Full Review: Starmate Sth1 Sirius Satellite Radio Home Kit |
This review is for the Sirius Satellite for your home. I dont drive anymore so dont confuse this review as something that is utilized in your vehicle. I understand that Im in the minority as I never listen to my satellite radio on the road. The Starmate Sth1 Sirius Satellite Radio Home Kit is only for your home and let me tell you it is a major pain in the buttocks to get this thing hooked up. The young pimple faced idiot at my local Circuit City told me that the hook-up is so easy that a caveman can do it well I fully admit that the caveman was a bit more intelligent than yours truly, the very sexy Mr. Stockholder, but this was not easy.
The kid told me that all I will need to do is either set the indoor outdoor antenna on top of my home stereo system, or point out a window. Well in reality I tried both; I tried my hardest to get a reception after plugging in the antenna into the AUX (RED AND WHITE) in the back of my stereo. I spent 4-hours on the phone with the worthless helpdesk at Sirius I tried sticking the Sirius Satellite Radio antenna out of my windows in my apartment just to find that my gutters hang too far over my apartment. In the end the Sirius would not work . I needed to hire my little Mexican neighbor to get on a ladder, install the darn indoor outdoor antenna on top of my apartments roof. He then drilled a hole in the wall behind my home entertainment system and into the AUX (red and white) in the back of my stereo and wired all the way to the top of my roof.
I did this without asking my landlord since the slum-lordski never answers my calls and only comes by to collect the rent. However this is something that you will need to be sure that you have permission to do if you live in an apartment or a condo. I did hook-up in a panic because I just paid $284 for my 2-year membership to Sirius, plus the $60 for the equipment and the $10 activation fee I was looking at about a $360 investment in entertainment. When I could not get a signal in my unit I felt ill. Sirius tells me that most people that want Sirius will not need the antenna installed on the roof, however it is by far the best way to receive a signal. The second best is to point out your window, third to place on top of your stereo system that you are using in your home. However my reception is crystal clear when on the roof.
After this initial scare I am now the happiest person on earth thanks to Sirius. What makes me the happiest is that with my two-year subscription I get free internet access to Sirius. With any computer I now can go to www.sirius.com and listen to most of the 130-channels through the Internet. This is absolutely perfect for listening to the forty or so talk stations that are on Sirius. The satellite is hooked up to my home stereo in my living room which is nice for listening to the 75 or so commercial free music channels. I like to listen in my bedroom and in my office to talk radio channels like Howard Stern 100 and 101, CNN, NFL Radio and the Playboy channel is perfect for when I am attempting to masturbate. They have young ladies talking about their panties and hygiene it is great background sound while attempting the almighty self pleasuring.
MUSIC both via Sirius Satellite and www.sirius.com
The best channel ever is the 24-hour commercial free Elvis channel. This like the Bruce Springsteen and Dead Head channel plays all of the hits and digs deep with harder to find songs, alternate versions, interviews and concerts. This Elvis station had me dancing, moving and getting some exercise around the house. Not to mention another great, great channel called Siriusly Sinatra that plays all the great singers of the days when Sinatra was bigger than life.
15-pop
30-rock (soft, classic, heavy, Punk, Alternative etc..)
8- Hip Hop R&B (My Fartknuckle 12-year old grandson won't get off the Eminem channel that plays the Rap music)
7- Country
2 - Christian
4- Jazz and Blues
4- Classical
2- Latin
16- About News Channels
2- Fox
2- CNN
1- ABC
2- One Liberal and one Conservative
1- BBC 1- Bloomberg 2- NPR 1- CBC International New 1- WRN world. (Also Spanish CNN, French- RCI and Korean)
The bottom line:
Regular radio is so horrible. You spend half the time listening to commercials or commercial music (what they want you to hear). All of the talk is censured and filtered for the sponsors. On Sirius you get to hear Howard Stern tell it like it is uncensored. Plus the numerous standup comedians and world news channels make you a better entertained and informed person. Not to mention you get your information quicker as you choose the channel that best fits you. For example the 24-hour Chicago weather and traffic channel commercial free. The music channels are so specific as there are a handful of channels for each genre. Buy Sirius now and see how much you benefit from locking in your deal now before the Sirius and XM merger. Most think that the price will remain about the same after the two companies merge and the consumer would benefit. The current subscribers will get twice the channels as you will have all of the Sirius channels and the XM satellite too. This merger has been trying to go through for about a year - the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division and Federal Communication Commission is calling this a monopoly as these are the only two US satellite companies.
I would have bought the lifetime membership for $550 however at my age my 2-year agreement could be a lifetime membership. I fully recommend that you get Sirius - it is the best thing ever!! This is prefect for me as I spend 90-percent of my waking hours at home. However, there are devices out there that work both in your home and in your car.
