| lolaphrump's Full Review: Stearns & Foster Cresthaven Plush Mattress |
I purchased this Stearns & Foster Cresthaven mattress on 6-27-03 at The Mattress Gallery in Washington State about 7 days ago at the price of 899.00 for a Queen size mattress and 9" regular box spring with their premium frame with extra support in the middle.
The mattress has a Belgian Damask cover and a 1 1/2 inch foam latex layer underneath to give it the plush surface.
The innerspring coil system has the 12 3/4 gauge innerspring that is a thicker coil than all of the mainstream brands and is supposed to keep its shape and stay firmer longer and outlast the other brands.
The box spring system is supposed to be more durable than the other brands to protect the mattress with its "UltraSteel Box" by acting as a shock absorbing system.
Mattress is 13" high, the box is 9" high (Queen size), you can opt for the lower profile 4 1/2 in Box also.
The delivery was smooth and was charged $39.00, the frame was regularly $90.00, they gave it to me for $60.00 so I am not complaining about the price, they took away my old set except for the frame which will be out in my garage until I find a use for it.
COMFORT: I expected the world from this mattress due to the glowing review on this website. I was so excited when they delivered it I was afraid to lay on it. So after the first nights sleep I awoke with about 50% less pain than my 3 year old Simmons Firm BeautyRest which I paid $600.00 for at Levitz. (Not having very good luck with mattresses)
I am an overweight (Alittle over 200 pounds) person and wake up achy with a backache. The first night on the Simmons Beautyrest I woke up for the first time in my life with no pain whatsoever. That changed within a week on that mattress.
On this BRAND NEW Stearns & Foster Cresthaven, my second night sleep involved severe lower back pain, The third night, I was using a flat pillow under my entire back noticing the bed already had a sag in the middle. I am sending this mattress back to the store which only has 6 Stearns and Foster mattress to choose from at twice the price. I am very disappointed in this mattress as I thought this was going to be "the one". I have had bad luck with Simmons, SpringAir, Sealy and Serta and am ready to buy an air mattress and stick it on the floor! (And yes I exercise and have had my back x-rayed to make sure nothing major is wrong)
I will update this post to let you all know my mattress saga.
UPDATE:
Well, it is now middle of August 2003 and decided to trade this mattress for a 14 coil Simmons Exceptionale Victorian and love it alot, but is already showing imprints. Since I am allowed to only have one exchange I have to deal with this bed so I will prop it up with foam in the middle between bed and box when it sags so much it hurts. Right now it is still the most wonderful bed I have ever slept on, but at more than twice the price! (2200.00) It has latex and memory foam on top of the 1400 springs and is VERY thick (17 inches) so I use the queen sheets on the bottom, this refers to the "full" version of the Simmons.
Good Luck all.
