Sterilite 66 Quart Clear Storage Boxes - The first time I saw these sitting in Cost-U-Less, I decided I had to have them. Now my work areas are furnished in Sterilite Moderene.
The are a wonderfully convenient size - end-to-end, they measure around two feet, which is a convenient arm-span for me. They are about a foot deep, and around 17 inches front to back. This is a perfect size for my storage needs - big enough to hold stuff, but small enough that I can carry them by myself.
They stack neatly, due to the bottoms fitting into the recessed lids.
The are clear, which means I can tell at a glance what is inside, saving me a lot of time, as I am notorious for mis-labling boxes!
At around $8 each, they are reasonably priced.
The only problem I have had with them is that the plastic gets brittle after about a year, and if you bang them or twist them, they will crack or shatter.
But they work better for me than cardboard, so every time I work on a project, rather than returning it to the cardboard box, I put it in a new Sterilite container.
My workspace is much tidier now, and my husband is happy to see that!
I can also find my materials and tools much more quickly.
I am also starting to put some of my tools in these containers.
Smaller gardening tools fit nicely in them, so I am starting to store them there. When I am working on a project, as I have the tools out, anyway, I dump my potting mix in the box to work with it. When I am done, I hose out the box and put the tools, gloves, work towels, etc back in, close the lid, and it is nice and tidy!
Same thing with my concrete-working tools. I am building some stonework walls, and putting stucco on the new island I built in the kitchen. My trowels, mixers, measuring things, etc. fit nicely into the container, and when it is time to work, I remove the tools and pour in one bag of pre-mix, add water (with the measured jug which lives in the box as well), and use the box for mixing. When I am done, it cleans up quickly, a couple of shakes and it's dry, the tools go back inside, and everything is tidy and awaiting the next project.
Now, if they can just come up with a plastic that does not get brittle!
