Cons: all tracks sound the same; musically flat and depressing

I just finished listening to Tori Amos' new album, Strange Little Girls. I wanted to like it. I really did. Unfortunately, it was not to be.
The concept behind the album is an interesting one. Twelve songs written by men in a variety of times and musical styles, all covered by Tori with her own interpretation. I'm not quite sure how she managed to turn the musical diversity she started with into this.
The entire album is the same sound of song - slow, soft, murmuring lyrics behind a solo piano. One or two songs like this is okay, but twelve? Every track is depressing, tired of life, despairing. There were two tracks worthy of adding to my MP3 collection: "Rattlesnake" and "Real Men". In these I could actually hear a hint of the old Tori, who put her heart into her singing. I hope the old Tori comes back.
