| titaniumtommy's Full Review: Sundance Mining Company |
I thought I was in heaven the few times I've been to Lawry's Prime Rib house in Los Angeles, but Sundance brings prime rib to a whole new level. (And yes, it's called Sundance Mine Co. as stated in other reviews).
While the parking is a little tight, everything else was excellent. I went on a Wednesday night so it wasn't busy at all. I was seated immediately. The service was a little bit slow, but I didn't mind because the place was very nice and seemed to foster conversation. The bread was delicious. The crust was crunchy and flaky, while the bread itself was soft and warm. They served the bread with a mild virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar along with soft salted butter. It was a good start to the meal. When it was time to order, my roommate and I chose the panko breaded shrimp and the idaho potato skins as our appetizers, I also had a garden salad with crumbled bleu cheese as an appetizer. I ordered the house cut of prime rib with baked potato.
The panko shrimp was served with cocktail sauce...an interesting combination since panko is more of a delicate japanese breading, but it worked. The potato skins were also very delicious, much better than anything I've tried before. The salad was pretty good, but a little over-priced at $7. The creamy italian dressing was awesome!
The prime rib itself was awe inspiring. Not the largest cut of beef, but by far the most delicious beef I've ever had (and I've had a lot of beef in my day). The meat was juicy and tender throughout. The texture was much smoother than I've ever had in any cut of beef. The meat just melted away in my mouth. The spices were just right. The baked potato was equally full of quality and very tasty. The baby carrots and asparagus were pretty good, but could have been a little better.
All in all, this place was simply awesome. I recommend it for special occasions or just a quiet night out with quality food.
