| daric's Full Review: Taylor Made FireSole Driver |
First, I just love the way the Firesole looks at address. The bright copper color is unique among woods today, and it is a nice contrast to the green grass, adding to my confidence that "I can't miss" because I see the club so well.
My last driver was the Ti Bubble 2, which had a VERY large head. I could actually feel the wind resistance, especially on windy days. Not so with the Firesole. Wind resistance is not a problem. The Firesole head has been reduced in size to a more manageable size. Because the head is smaller, Taylor Made could insert a tungsten plate on the sole of the Firesole and keep the overall weight about the same. This lowers the center of gravity, and gives me a better ball flight, as I'm typically a low-ball hitter.
In addition, I think the Firesole is the best-feeling titanium club I've hit. Most titanium clubs feel very "clanky" or "hard". The Firesole has a softer feel and a unique "ping" that feels solid. I am also surprised how well my off-center hits travel. I tried the Titleist and the Calloway drivers at the same time, and thought the Firesole was the best. Taylor Made has done a great job with this club.
And, yes, I do hit the ball farther than I did with the Ti Bubble 2.
