LILvoyce's Full Review: Tazo Tea Awake Black - 20 Bags
I was anticipating a decent flavor from Tazo Tea -Awake (Black Tea). It is packaged in such an expensive looking box, and story line. Tazo claims to be the "Reincarnation of Tea." In my opinion they need to go back and rediscover. I am quite a tea drinker. I love to sample all sorts of teas. Tazo was a huge disappointment in the flavor department. Black tea happens to be one of my favorite teas. I was expecting something much more defined with Tazo.
My Experience
I swear you could go out and purchase a generic no name tea where you get a 100 bags for a buck, or purchase the Tazo Awake Black Tea, and you probably couldn't tell the difference except for it being a bit on the strong side. It's flavor it bland, bitter, and doesn't taste any better than an ordinary tea. I don't feel it is worthy of such a fine looking box or price. I had the feeling I was getting a gourmet tea, and paid a gourmet price. I could have gotten six times the amount of tea, and paid 1/3 less than what I did for a box of 20. Each tea bag is packed in a very pretty red wrapper with matching draw string. It even looks like they took time in coming up with the individual wrapping of these bags. The packaging is excellent.
The tea is just ordinary at best. I don't care for it cold, or with milk or cream. I prefer it unsweetened too. If you sweeten it, it has a strange after taste. I don't plan on purchasing Tazo's version of Awake again. I probably won't try Tazo tea products again unless I read an outstanding review complimenting one of their other flavors. I was that un-impressed. This tea is overpriced as well. I won't recommend because it tastes generic.
Tazo Awake is suppose to be a "Bold breakfast tea, claiming to have character and depth, invigorating and satisfying any time of day." I beg to differ, Bold and tastes old in spite of what the expiration date says. I am better off with a generic tea.
I imagine a breakfast teas to be on the light and well defined taste. This tea claimed to be bold, and I was prepared to deal with its strong flavor, but I was expecting something out of the ordinary. Maybe I set my standards to high?
